Do you have experience producing and analysing financial reports to uncover key insights and deliver impactful recommendations?

The Finance Directorate supports Ministers and senior officials across the public sector make sound decisions about the allocation and management of resources. In doing so, we deliver a range of financial management, compliance, and assurance roles to help the organisation manage and govern public spending and deliver compliance and reporting requirements. 

As an Internal Control and Data Analyst, you will develop an understanding of financial system data and create dashboards to present this information across the Scottish Government. This involves collaborating with multiple teams and stakeholders across the Division, Directorate/Agency, and the wider Scottish Government community.

This role is located within the Control and Assurance Branch within Financial Management Directorate’s Risk, Control and Assurance Division.  While the role is linked to a specific team within the Division, you will also work closely with the division’s analytical service to make use of technical analytical expertise via a range of tools such as Power BI, Visio, SQL, and Excel. 

Responsibilities

  • Work with team colleagues and functional stakeholders to develop understanding of Oracle reporting functionality and supporting the design of dashboards using available reports. 
  • Develop understanding and awareness of Oracle reporting functionality including identifying improvements and liaising with Corporate Hub to implement these, and developing learning material for to support wider directorate and organisational understanding.
  • Create and manage Power BI dashboards to support monitoring of financial controls and other dashboard requirements, ensuring proper governance and documentation. 
  • Work with stakeholders to coordinate the completion of Finance Control and Assurance work form requests, liaising with the divisional Data and Analytics team to help address and assign these.
  • Support relevant divisional projects and activities, including operational and analytical assistance as required, and ensuring timely delivery and alignment with strategic objectives . 
  • Follow divisional peer review processes to ensure the quality and accuracy of data-related outputs, working closely with the Data and Analytics team. 
  • Strengthen second line finance and control activity, including identifying areas for process improvement and opportunities to develop team performance.

Experience:

Experience of producing and analysing financial reports and data to draw out key findings and recommendations.

Well-developed Excel and VBA experience, alongside SQL skills.
