Lead, Data Scientist (The Prudential Insurance Company of America, Newark, NJ):
Supporting the individual Life Insurance business unit to make informed decisions using data. This includes reviewing all available data assets within the company and assessing their value in improving the insurance underwriting process or assessing past performance of the business to suggest new areas of focus or improvement. Automating the current underwriting process in order to facilitate better customer experience, quicker and more reliable decisions, and better overall value for the customer. This is achieved through building Machine Learning models using the data owned by Prudential. Creating new Machine Learning models to add capabilities to the current underwriting system. Maintaining, evaluating and enhancing the existing Machine Learning models developed by the team, in order to ensure performance is maintained over time. Performing financial and actuarial analysis on the historic model-based decisions to justify the pricing and cost/benefits of the Machine Learning models. Working with various stakeholders such as the Business, Actuaries and Medical Underwriters to complement the data-based decision-making capabilities with the business expertise. Assessing the performance of various life insurance products over time to recommend improvements to the underwriting process. This includes evolving the application process/interview, the data collection strategy, customer risk identification, etc; and finding opportunities for expanding Prudential’s data assets using 3rd party vendors’ datasets, in order to aid the insurance underwriting process.
Full time employment, Monday – Friday, 40 hours per week, $195,800.00 per year.
Telecommuting permitted up to 20% per week.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
Master’s degree in Statistics, Mathematics, Computer Science, Economics, or a related field and 2 years of work experience.
Must have 2 years of experience in:
- Programming Languages: Python, R, and SQL;
- Data Wrangling: Preparing data for further analysis; Redefining and mapping raw data to generate insights; Processing of large datasets (structured, unstructured); and
- Statistics and Computing: Understanding and application of Calculus, Multivariable Calculus, Linear Algebra, Differential Equations, Probability, Statistics, Applied Probability, Applied
Statistics, Computer Science (Programming Methodologies), and Cloud. Knowledge of statistical techniques such as the use of descriptive, inferential, Bayesian statistics, time series
analysis etc. to extract business insights and experimentation to solve business problems.
