Job Summary
McKesson Canada is seeking a highly experienced Senior Privacy and Data Governance Specialist to play a pivotal role in embedding and advancing governance frameworks across the organization. Reporting to the Sr. Director of Privacy & Compliance, this role is essential in ensuring that privacy and data governance practices are not only compliant with current regulations but are also scalable and future-ready.
This position requires a seasoned professional with a deep understanding of data governance principles, data lifecycle management, and regulatory compliance. The successful candidate will lead the development and implementation of governance strategies, oversee enterprise-wide privacy initiatives, and act as a key advisor on governance-related risks and controls. Strong leadership, analytical, and communication skills are essential, as is the ability to collaborate across departments and with external partners.
Key Responsibilities
Governance Leadership & Strategy
- Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of enterprise-wide data governance frameworks.
- Act as a governance authority, ensuring that all privacy and data management practices align with organizational policies, legal requirements, and industry best practices.
- Oversee governance-related risk assessments, audits, and monitoring activities to ensure consistent application of standards.
- Serve as an independent review body for governance issues, ensuring they are appropriately evaluated, investigated, and resolved.
Privacy Program Oversight
- Manage the Privacy Incident Management Program, including breach investigations and mitigation strategies.
- Conduct and oversee Privacy Impact Assessments (PIAs) across all business units.
- Provide expert guidance on privacy legislation (e.g., PIPEDA), contractual obligations, and internal policies.
- Update and maintain privacy-related policies and procedures in line with evolving legal and regulatory requirements.
Training, Communication & Stakeholder Engagement
- Develop and deliver governance and privacy training programs tailored to various stakeholder groups.
- Create and manage stakeholder communications to support the implementation and adoption of governance processes.
- Collaborate with internal teams and external consultants to support strategic initiatives and ensure alignment with governance objectives.
Data Management & Compliance
- Support the implementation and sustainment of data management processes, including policy development, business tools, and procedural documentation.
- Monitor and report on data governance metrics, identifying areas for improvement and ensuring alignment with organizational goals.
- Conduct needs assessments and provide recommendations to enhance data quality and streamline governance processes.
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience required.
- Minimum of 7 years of experience in privacy, data governance, or related compliance roles.
- Strong knowledge of privacy legislation (e.g., PIPEDA); CIPP/C designation preferred.
- Proven experience in designing and implementing governance frameworks and controls.
- Demonstrated ability to lead cross-functional projects and influence stakeholders at all levels.

- Deep expertise in governance, risk management, and compliance (GRC).
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly in risk evaluation and root cause analysis.
- Excellent communication and interpersonal skills for stakeholder engagement and training.
- High level of integrity, discretion, and professionalism.
- Bilingual proficiency in English and French is an asset.
