About the Role

Huawei Ireland Research Centre's (IRC) mission is to position Huawei as a recognized technology leader and a global provider of information and communications technology (ICT) solutions. We are building a world-class, multi-disciplinary Research Centre that collaborates with European universities, global customers, and thought leaders to address medium- to long-term challenges in the ICT space.

As a Principal Researcher, you will take a leadership role in advancing novel approaches to recommender systems. You’ll drive cutting-edge research, collaborate with internal and external stakeholders, and lead initiatives that impact millions of users worldwide.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead the design and development of advanced recommender system algorithms that solve complex real-world problems

- Conduct in-depth research, explore novel methodologies, and push the boundaries of current practices in recommender systems

- Manage large-scale datasets and propose innovative solutions for data acquisition, preparation, and utilization

- Define strategic research directions, drive projects, and mentor junior researchers to execute with excellence

- Publish groundbreaking research in top-tier conferences and journals and contribute to Huawei’s global intellectual property portfolio (patents)

- Foster relationships with external research partners, universities, and stakeholders to maintain Huawei’s leadership in ICT research

- Take ownership of demonstrating the real-world impact of research outcomes through practical prototypes or system implementations

Requirements

- Extensive experience in recommender systems and machine learning research, with a track record of innovations and solutions

- Advanced programming and software engineering expertise in Python, R, C, or C++

- Passionate about shaping the future of machine learning and AI technologies

- PhD in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, or related fields with substantial research leadership experience

- Strong publication record in top-tier conferences, journals, and intellectual property

- Proven ability to lead projects from concept through to successful implementation, managing ambiguity and stakeholder expectations
