PRESTO is an electronic transit fare payment system in the Greater Toronto, Hamilton and Ottawa areas that eliminates the need for tickets, passes and cash. PRESTO serves more than 5 million customers across 11 transit agencies and processes over $2.5 billion in fares through 67 million boardings per month (pre-pandemic). Today, PRESTO offers one of the most globally advanced fare payment systems in the world having delivered new ways to pay for customers, including real time PRESTO Contactless with credit and Interac debit and PRESTO in Mobile Wallet across its transit agency clients, including the Toronto Transit Commission (TTC). Enhancing the customer experience through continuous improvement while working with our transit agency clients to support their needs, and maintaining a system that performs exceptionally, continue to drive PRESTO toward making transit better for all.
Our PRESTO Payments Fraud Management office is seeking a Senior Data Analytics & Fraud Analyst/Senior Fraud Business Analyst to provide fraud detection, monitoring, and reporting support to PRESTO. The Analyst will understand fraud relative to the payments industry, and leverage industry insight, along with technical analytical skills, to support fraud detection. Furthermore, they will be accountable for the design, build and continuous use of fraud detection tools/processes to provide routine monitoring and analysis.
What will I be doing?- Designs, builds and deploys detective processes to monitor and combat potential fraud relative to the use and sale of PRESTO products
- Utilizes databases, analytical software and tools to conduct routine reviews to identify new and emerging fraud trends in order to inform the appropriate PRESTO business and product owner(s) for corrective action
- Prepares fraud incident reports and builds/maintains fraud event repository
- Completes fraud investigations, within the established department KPI’s, by conducting a thorough review of account information in respect to the referred case, summarizing the referential information in the case management tools
- Acts on escalated cases effectively and efficiently to minimize the risk or loss to PRESTO and others
- Conducts periodic reviews of key risk indicators specific to e-commerce merchants, provides commentary and works collaboratively with the appropriate product owner(s) to implement e-commerce fraud prevention controls as required
- Performs routine monthly operational processes to support fraud monitoring and detection activities
- Works with other Metrolinx departments (e.g. legal, audit, etc.) and third parties (e.g. loss prevention and enforcement agencies) to support fraud investigations
- Provides fraud detection expertise, research and leverage of best practices to provide critical review of proposed product and system designs to identify potential fraud control gaps and provides corrective recommendations to the fraud product owner to implement
- Supports holistic end-to-end fraud risk assessments (FRA’s) before any major product/service launches within the PRESTO ecosystem
- Collaborates with the fraud product owner to ensure requirements to support fraud detection are appropriately scoped and submitted to the various project teams
- Routinely maintains fraud risk register, ensures all risks have associated preventative and detective controls in place, and the controls are operating effectively
- Conducts business acceptance testing and user acceptance testing to ensure fraud requirements and associated detective controls are implemented correctly
- Provides internal customers, leaders and team members, with agreed upon reports and recommendations with accuracy and on deadline
- Provides subject matter expertise to non-finance business leaders, partners and committee members
- Supports internal and external clients and provides analyses and reports
- Develops commentary and presentations on fraud detection analysis and reports for senior management and presents them to aid decision-making
- Mines and analyzes data to develop new models (e.g. predictive modeling) to monitor key risk indicators and to measure the effectiveness of existing fraud detection controls
- Works cross-functionally to operationalize the use of fraud monitoring tools and data models – this includes post-implementation support such as testing, troubleshooting and continuous improvement
- University degree in Computer Science, Mathematics, Statistics, Finance or a related discipline, or a combination of education and training deemed equivalent
- Demonstrated experience as a Fraud Analyst or Specialist in Fraud management and experience with data mining, modelling and analytics
- Fraud and Security certification such as CFE (ACFE), PCI (ASIS), CFI or CFCI (IAFCI) is an asset
- Working knowledge of payment, transit and/or e-commerce industry common trends and information regarding fraud detection/prevention
- Ability to gather, analyze, document and present large volumes of information in a succinct and organized manner
- Experience in identifying fraud trends, end-to-end customer journey evaluations including back-end considerations (i.e. financial settlement and other operational impact)
- Critical thinker with excellent analytical and problem-solving skills
- Attention to detail related to accuracy and visual experience
- Excellent communication skills, both oral and written with a high degree for customer/client sensitivity
- Strong organizational and multi-tasking skills, with the ability to meet deadlines and
- Successfully thrive in a fast-paced environment
- Advanced level proficiency in MS Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Outlook, etc.)
- Working knowledge of SQL is required, with the ability to author queries for data validation and analysis using SQL Server Management Studio
- Design, build and deploy Business Intelligence (BI) components of solutions using reporting platforms such as Qlik, Power BI and Tableau
