The Data Scientist role at Nexstar Media will focus on creating and applying data models and AI solutions to drive digital strategy across the company’s diverse media platforms, including broadcast stations, websites and mobile apps. This position will help grow audience registration and engagement, as well as improve ad performance.

This person will work closely with other members of the central data team and operational groups to integrate models and AI solutions into Nexstar’s systems. The ideal candidate will have a deep understanding of digital media and an eagerness to foster a data-driven decisionmaking culture.

Roles & Responsibilities:

• Machine Learning Model Development: Build and improve machine learning models to predict audience behavior, optimize products and drive revenue

• Feature Engineering: Develop and automate algorithms for creating features that improve model performance

• Data Integration: Combine and integrate data assets from internal and external sources to enhance model effectiveness

• Data Analysis: Analyze large datasets to understand audience behavior and ad campaign performance. Familiarity with NLP and time series analyses

• Collaboration: Work with data engineers, product managers, and analysts to apply data science insights and solutions across the organization

• Technical Expert: Serve as an advisor on data science and AI strategies, helping other teams refine their strategies

• Oversight: Manage key components of the data science stack, including models, scripts, and tools Minimum Qualifications:

• Educational Requirements: BS in a quantitative field (such as computer science, statistics, engineering, sciences, or other related fields)

• Professional Experience: 3+ years in data science, machine learning, AI or statistical analysis

• Technical Skills:

o Programming: Experience with SQL and Python for data preparation and analysis

o Machine Learning: Experience in training and evaluating machine learning models

o Cloud & Data Tools: Proficient in working with cloud platforms (GCP, AWS) and version control tools like git

o Statistics and Machine Learning Principles: A solid understanding of statistical techniques and the fundamentals of machine learning. Familiarity with Causal Inference analysis, such as A/B testing, and cluster analysis

Preferred Experience:

• Digital Media Expertise: Experience with digital media analytics, advertising, and audience acquisition strategies is a plus, reflecting the company’s industry focus

Location:

• The role is based in New York City

The pay range for this role is $125,000 -- $130,000 annually. Other benefits include medical, dental, vision, 401K match, and paid parental leave.
