The PositionUplight is creating a new category of energy. We make software that manages energy resources in homes and businesses—including things like smart thermostats, electric vehicles, solar panels, storage batteries, heat pumps, and even people’s behavior—to generate, shift, or save energy to balance the grid, making it more efficient and reliable. This creates clean energy capacity that can be used by the power grid instead of burning more fossil fuels. Our solutions accelerate the transition to clean energy and save money for energy customers. We’re looking for a Data Engineer to join our Utility Data Ingest team, focused on the resilience, scalability, and performance of the pipelines that move large-scale utility data into our platform.  It's a fantastic opportunity for a dynamic & high performing individual to help us achieve our ambitious growth goals for our business, and for the planet.  How you will make an impact:As a Data Engineer on the Utility Data Ingest team you will play a central role in building and maintaining the pipelines that bring tenant utility data into Uplight's platform. You’ll also help design systems that track and expose key data quality and volume metrics, enabling better monitoring and debugging. What you get to do:
  • Design, build, and maintain data pipelines using Databricks (Spark, Delta Lake) and Python.

  • Improve reliability and fault tolerance of ingest pipelines handling large volumes of utility data.
  • Collaborate with data engineers, analysts, and product managers to define SLAs and monitoring strategies.
  • Continuously optimize pipelines for cost, performance, and scalability in cloud environments (GCP preferred).
  • Contribute to data platform tooling such as metadata tracking, alerting, and lineage.
  • Participate in code reviews, sprint planning, and architecture discussions in a remote-first, agile environment.
What you bring to Uplight:
  • 2–5 years of experience in data engineering or backend engineering roles.
  • Strong working knowledge of Databricks, Spark, or similar distributed data systems.
  • Experience with Airflow or other workflow orchestration tools.
  • Proficient in Python and SQL, with an understanding of scalable data design.
  • Familiarity with cloud platforms (GCP or AWS).
  • Passion for writing clean, maintainable code and delivering resilient systems.
  • A collaborative, team-oriented mindset with strong communication skills.
Bonus Points:
  • Experience with real-time or streaming data systems (e.g., Kafka, Structured Streaming).
