 eSimplicity is seeking a skilled and motivated Senior Data Engineer to join our innovative IT team. In this role, you will be responsible for leading advanced data analytics initiatives with a strong focus on AWS architecture and tools. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in data acquisition strategies, metadata management, and collaboration on high-impact projects. You will play a critical role in ensuring program integrity and data-driven decision-making across complex, mission-critical environments.  Successful candidates will be local to the Washington-Baltimore region and eligible to hold a U.S. Federal Public Trust security clearance.  
 

 

Responsibilities: 

  • Develop and implement strategies for data acquisition, archive recovery, and database implementation using AWS tools and best practices.  
  • Assembles large, complex sets of data that meet non-functional and functional business requirements 
  • Build required infrastructure for optimal extraction, transformation and loading of data from various data sources using AWS and SQL technologies 
  • Review object and data models and maintain the metadata repository to ensure efficient data management and rapid accessibility.  
  • Monitor and optimize the performance of data infrastructure and processes. 
  • Support data analytics and business operations.  
  • Provide technical vision and direction to complex data-related initiatives. Offer guidance and oversight to junior personnel and contribute as a hands-on expert in the field.  
  • Engage closely with project managers, client representatives, and cross-functional teams to provide timely updates, resolve issues, and ensure alignment with business goals.  
  • Utilize analytics to support program integrity initiatives. Optimize system performance and apply security best practices within cloud environments. 
  • Develop data quality and validation jobs 
  • Write unit and integration tests for all data processing code 
  • Translate technical specifications into code and design documents  


 

Requirements

 

Required Qualifications: 

  • Bachelor's degree in computer science, Information Systems, Engineering, Business, or other related scientific or technical discipline 
  • 10+ years of professional hands-on experience in data analytics, with preferred focus in program integrity or related domains.  
  • 7+ years of hands-on software development experience; 4+ years of data pipeline experience using Python, Java and cloud technologies 
  • Strong hands-on experience with Oracle, AWS, and cloud data solutions.  
  • Strong understanding of AWS products including S3, Redshift, RDS, EMR, AWS Glue, AWS Glue DataBrew, Jupyter Notebooks, Athena, QuickSight, EMR, and Amazon SNS 
  • Advanced knowledge of data modeling, metadata management, and data repository optimization.  
  • Familiar with work to build processes that support data transformation, workload management, data structures, dependency and metadata 
  • Experienced in data governance process to ingest (batch, stream), curate, and share data with upstream and downstream data users. 
  • Proficiency in data visualization, ETL tools, and SQL-based analytics environments.  
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, DevOps principles, and CI/CD pipelines.  
  • Demonstrated ability to implement security standards and optimize performance in large-scale data environments.  
  • Strong attention to detail with a commitment to delivering high-quality and accurate work.   
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to collaborate effectively across teams.  
  • Proven ability to manage time and prioritize tasks in a fast-paced environment.   
  • Demonstrated problem-solving skills with a proactive and solution-oriented mindset. 

Preferred Qualifications: 

  • AWS cloud certified, Databricks and Snowflake experience a plus.  
  • Preferred experience working in government programs and/or regulated environments.  
  • Soft leadership skills – including mentoring of other technical personnel on the program. 


Working Environment:

 This is a hybrid position that may require in-office work in Columbia, MD 2-3 days per week. Expected hours are 9:00 AM to 5:00 PM Eastern unless otherwise directed by your manager. Occasional travel for training and project meetings. It is estimated to be less than 25% per year.
