This role is in the DroneShield Sydney headquarters in Pyrmont, Sydney. There are approximately 300 staff based in the 4,000sqm facility today, scheduled to grow to approximately 350 staff by end of 2025. Overseas on the ground presence includes Virginia (USA), Denmark, Germany and Dubai, as well as distributors in over 70 countries globally.


About the role

DroneShield is seeking a Manufacturing Engineer with relevant experience to join the team in Sydney, NSW.

The position will report to the Production Automation Lead.

This role will be responsible for the design and development of manufacturing test systems and rigs for DroneShield products. The rigs this engineer develops will be used for product testing on the DroneShield production floor and by contract manufacturers around the world.


Responsibilities, Duties and Expectations 

  • Develop production test rigs that increase production speed, accuracy and test coverage
  • Work closely with other teams to understand product testing requirements and interfaces
  • Develop system requirements and tests to validate those requirements
  • Manage project plans and timelines to keep development on track
  • Document designs to ensure test rigs can be scaled and maintained
  • Communicate with test equipment vendors to obtain quotes, support and technical information
  • Occasional travel interstate and overseas may be required

Qualifications, Experience and Skills 

  • Degree in Software Development, Engineering or relevant experience required
  • Experience developing manufacturing systems and rigs preferred
  • Experienced in Python required
  • Experience unit testing and use of CI/CD pipelines favourable
  • SolidWorks experience favourable (to develop rigs that interact with devices under test physically as well as digitally)
  • Experience in LabVIEW favourable
  • Understanding of RF and experience with RF test equipment favourable
  • Suitable to hold a security clearance if required
