Required Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelor’s degree and 3 years of related experience

Preferred Qualifications:

Experience with higher education data systems, such as – Workday Student, PeopleSoft, or other SIS platforms.
Experience with statistical analysis tools, such as – SPSS, Stata, R, or Python
Experience creating dashboards and reports using Tableau, Power BI, or other business intelligence tools.
Experience with predictive modeling and forecasting methodologies.
Experience in applying econometric techniques in a higher education setting.

Job Description:

The Office of Enrollment Research and Analytics at Iowa State University is seeking a skilled and detail-oriented Data Analyst II to support strategic decision-making through data-driven insights and reporting. This role is responsible for compiling, analyzing, and presenting data from multiple internal and external sources to support institutional planning, policy development, and operational effectiveness. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in data analysis, experience with a variety of analytical tools and platforms, and a collaborative mindset to work across departments to meet reporting and analytic needs.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Run queries and generate datasets for reporting and analysis
  • Write scripts for scheduled reports and ensure data accuracy
  • Create reports, tables, dashboards, and visualizations using tools like Tableau and Power BI
  • Compile and submit institutional data to external agencies (e.g., Board of Regents, Common Data Set)
  • Conduct statistical and predictive analyses to support enrollment and student success strategies
  • Develop models for enrollment projections, recruitment, financial aid, and student persistence
  • Provide data extracts and maintain the ERA data archive and University data warehouse
  • Monitor SIS data changes and ensure consistency in data definitions and values
  • Respond to ad hoc data requests and support university-wide policy discussions
  • Mentor junior analysts and help refine data and report requirements

The Office of Enrollment Research and Analytics within Enrollment Management at Iowa State University supports the University’s mission by advancing data-informed strategies that optimize student recruitment, enrollment, retention, and success. The team works collaboratively with campus partners to provide insight, analysis, and strategic support through the management of institutional data and reporting. Enrollment Management includes functional areas such as admissions, financial aid, registrar, and student success initiatives, and is committed to fostering equitable access, informed decision-making, and continuous improvement across the student lifecycle.

Candidates must be legally authorized to work in the U.S. on an ongoing basis without sponsorship. Immigration sponsorship is not available for this position.


Example of Duties
• Gathers operational data to examine past organization performance.
• Assists in the preparation, cleansing, and verification of data.
• Performs data manipulation and analysis techniques.
• Develops and analyzes organizational data to quantify the competitive performance of business segments, evaluate potential operational changes, and design new approaches and methodologies.
• Applies and integrates statistical, mathematical, predictive modeling and business analysis skills to manage and manipulate high volume data from a variety of sources.
• Recommends actions for future developments & strategic business opportunities, as well as enhancements to operational policies.
• Assists in the development and maintenance of complex data storage structures needed to support data warehouse functions.
• Trains and assists users, managers and technical staff regarding access, use and storage of data and maximizing database design effectiveness.
• Conduct exploratory data analysis, confirmatory data analysis and/or qualitative analysis.
