The Advanced Wireless Technologies Lab (AWTL) is responsible for research activities towards the definition and development of future mobile network technologies and communication systems. AWTL has been engaging with multiple research and standardization activities, including participating to European Commission funded research projects of Horizon 2020 framework, contributing to industrial communication fora as 5G-AA, 5G-ACIA, transferring technologies to standardization bodies like 3GPP, ETSI, GSMA, NGMN, and developing in-house experimental platforms, prototypes and proof of concepts on wireless and networking technologies. Recently, AWTL focus has shifted to next generation (6G) wireless networks and technologies, towards 2030.

Senior Research Engineer for 6G Massive MIMO Techniques (m/f/d) - Leased Labor for 18 months - Berlin
Your mission
We expect the candidate to be enthusiastic, highly motivated and passionate about MIMO and AI. Your area of work will consist of:
- Conduct in-depth research on next generation wireless communication systems, particularly on next generation multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) technique. This involves studying novel communication protocols, signal processing techniques, and network architectures to improve data rates, latency, and spectral efficiency.
- Design and develop innovative wireless solutions and prototypes. Utilize advanced tools and software, such as C++ and Python, to simulate and model wireless systems, and then translate these concepts into working prototypes for testing and validation.
- Explore the integration of emerging technologies, such as artificial intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML) into wireless communication systems. Investigate how these technologies can enhance the current massive MIMO system.
- Stay updated on the latest industry standards and regulations related to wireless communication, such as those set by 3GPP and ITU. Contribute to the development of new standards by participating in industry forums, conferences, and standard-setting committees.
- Engage in collaborative research projects with academic institutions, industry partners, and other research organizations. Share knowledge, resources, and expertise to drive the advancement of wireless communication technologies on a global scale.
Your areas of expertise
- PhD. or M.S. in wireless communication, or related field
- Specialization and practical experience in at least one of the following: Massive MIMO or distributed MIMO system signal processing algorithm design
- Channel estimation for massive MIMO system
- AI for massive MIMO system design
- Expertise in programming languages such as C/C++ and Python
- Familiarity with wireless communication standards, such as 5G NR (New Radio) and 4G LTE (Long - Term Evolution)
- Independent and well-structured working style with a hands-on, can-do attitude
- Fluency in written and spoken English
