Description

The Sociology department at the University of Notre Dame invites highly motivated applicants for a Postdoctoral Fellowship to work on the research project “Novel Empirical Approaches to Examine Spatial-Social Integration and Suicide” led by Dr. Daniel Tadmon and Dr. Molly Copeland. This high-impact, funded project will combine spatial, health, and demographic datasets to study geographic and social determinants of mental health across the U.S.. We seek an enthusiastic, independent researcher with strong quantitative and data management skills, particularly with expertise in analyzing large-scale spatial datasets using R, Python, or Stata and a background in Sociology, Geography, Computer Science, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field. Candidates will contribute to the data analysis and co-authorship of research articles stemming from the project in sociology and in public health outlets. The Fellow will have the opportunity to develop their own research questions within the project's framework, contribute to theoretical development, and present at national conferences. Terms:
Duration: 12 months with the possibility of an extension pending on the availability of funding. The position is scheduled to begin in Fall 2025 or Spring 2026.
Location: Position based at the University of Notre Dame with potential for hybrid arrangements for qualified U.S.-based candidates.
Salary range: $65,000. The position includes a comprehensive benefits package, including health insurance and access to university resources.

 

Qualifications

Applicants must have a PhD in Sociology, Geography, Computer Science, Statistics, Epidemiology, or a related field. Applicants should submit a 1) 2-page cover letter; 2) CV; 3) research statement (2-3 pages, describing their dissertation project, works in progress, professional goals and plans, with an emphasis on geospatial analysis); 4) one writing sample; and 5) three letters of reference.
