Job Summary:

Since migrating our HR and Finance operations to the cloud-based Workday ERP platform in 2020, Langara College has built a strong foundation for ongoing digital transformation. The College is now entering an exciting phase as it modernizes its Student Information Systems (SIS), implementing a comprehensive suite of solutions, including Workday Student to enhance services, streamline operations, and support student success. This is a unique opportunity to contribute to a transformative initiative that will shape the future of Langara’s academic and administrative operations.

Under the general guidance of the Project Manager, ERP Process and Testing, the ERP Business Analyst, Data leads the assessment of client legacy data preparation needs in alignment to information technology solutions. This position provides expertise in preparation of legacy systems data through data cleansing, validation, testing, and audit activities. This role works in close collaboration with functional data owners and technical team; and is a champion in ensuring high data quality. The Business Analyst, Data is an integral member of the Student Projects and Improvement team, has a strategic perspective and a broad-based understanding of business operations whilst integrating with an enterprise solution.

We are seeking an ERP Business Analyst, Data passionate about Data and Analytics, Data Science, and Machine Learning, with exceptional analytical thinking, superb communication, and a positive customer service attitude to join our team. Experience in analysing large data sets to identify and resolve issues and experience in developing and implementing data cleansing plans is critical. Experience with ERP systems is preferred. Experience with Ellucian Banner Student is preferred. Experience in higher education or public sector is an asset. Knowledge of student life cycle processes in higher education environment is an asset.


Job Description:


 

Duties & Responsibilities:

Core Duties:

  • Leads the assessment of client needs utilizing a structured requirements process (gathering, analyzing, documenting, and managing changes) to identify business priorities and recommends options to prepare legacy data.

  • Identifies, elicits, and documents business requirements, defines business rules and communicates requirements for the implementation of business solutions with regards to preparing legacy data.

  • Communicates with stakeholders of varying technical ability and subject matter expertise.

  • Conducts workflow and gap analysis for data cleansing requirements.

  • Performs analysis and identification of requirements for data.

  • Works closely with Functional Workstream, Technical Workstream and other stakeholders in implementing data quality improvements, documenting agreements, and discussions with data. Position is privileged to highly sensitive information relating to business or technological changes.

  • Provides consultative services for the development of policies and procedures.

  • Analyzes metrics to ensure for client satisfaction.

  • Provides input and recommendations to feasibility studies for standard development projects and enhancements.

  • Provides technical guidance and leadership to less-experienced individuals.

  • Prepares functional, system and program specifications with regards to data.

  • Develops and implement data cleansing plans describing the overall approaches to resolve data integrity and quality issues in preparation for data conversion.

  • Documents data cleansing requirements in collaboration with the technical and functional teams for the development of data extracts.

  • Develops and implement data cleansing maintenance plan to keep the data clean post cleansing.

  • Develops validation reports and/or setup validation tool to monitor the ongoing data quality.

  • Conducts ongoing data quality audits to uncover trends and anomalies and develop actionable insights

  • Where data cleansing is not possible in the legacy system, document all data that cannot be cleansed prior to data conversion.

  • Supports the data conversion including quantitative and qualitative validation of converted data.

  • Conducts data analysis using statistical software, databases querying, spreadsheets and various reporting tools, and visualization tools.

  • Contributes to the development of data management procedures, processes, standards and data governance framework.

  • Prepares status reports to summarize findings communicate to client.

  • Maintains appropriate professional designations and up-to-date knowledge of current information technology techniques and tools.

  • Acquires and maintains working knowledge of the College's technical and business environment.

  • Builds and maintains good working relationships with project teams, business analyst peers, stakeholders, and vendors

  • Analyses the impacts of proposed changes to technology services and or processes within the College community.

  • Performs other related duties as required.

Qualifications Required:

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline.   

  • A minimum of 5 years of data analysis experience, with in-depth knowledge of applications and the business requirements supporting them.

  • An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered.

  • Considerable knowledge of project management, quality assurance and change management disciplines.

  • Experience in software implementation projects in a business analyst role with focus on data is preferred. 

  • Proven knowledge and expertise with legacy data migration including data analysis, data cleansing, data verification, data auditing, data extraction and data modelling (conceptual, logical).

  • Strong knowledge of business process mapping, improvement/optimization and BPMN.

  • Experience facilitating diverse groups to achieve an appropriate outcome.

  • Demonstrated ability to analyse and synthesize large sets of data and to formulate actionable insights.

  • Advanced knowledge and expertise with SQL and Oracle PL/SQL is a must.

  • Experience with the proper handling of sensitive data.

  • Solid understanding of key trends and players in the IT industry.

  • Experience on an ERP implementation project with student modules is strongly preferred.Knowledge with data warehouse concepts and foundations is an asset

  • Experience with Git and version control is an asset

  • Higher-education or public sector experience is an asset.

  • Experience with scripting languages such as PHP and Python is preferred,

  • Proven data visualization skills with Tableau, Power BI, Excel, and Open Source Python Libraries is an asset

  • Advanced experience with Excel and the ability to code macros with VBA is an asset

Compensation beyond the mid-point requires approval by the Public Sector Employers’ Council Secretariat (PSEC).
