We are seeking a highly motivated, customer-focused Software Development Engineer to join Premera’s Member Data Management (MDM) team. If you are motivated to solve technical challenges and make a difference for our customers, then come join us!

This is a hybrid role located on our campus in Mountlake Terrace, WA.

What you’ll do: 

  • Consult with business partners and IT leaders to assist in identifying and understanding problems or improvement opportunities, and recommend appropriate technologies, software, and system solutions that scale and perform.

  • Analyze moderate to high-risk business needs to determine solutions. Design solutions on various platforms by studying requirements and information needs and recommending solution alternatives.

  • Develop and modify code and system setup based on program specifications using multiple programming languages or system platforms.

  • Perform testing using both unit testing and test automation and document test results.

  • Produce appropriate technical documentation and notifications for changes to production systems or fixes to production problems. Create SDLC (Software Development Lifecycle) artifacts.

  • Analyze moderate to high-risk production problems, assess alternatives and work with team to implement solutions. Includes performance tuning, technical troubleshooting, debugging, call-rotation, and root cause analysis.

  • Support project initiatives collaborating with the rest of the design team and stakeholders ensuring that development milestones and deadlines are met. Provide feedback on peer designs in an open and collaborative environment. Act as technical resource for team and share knowledge across Premera’s developer community. Collaborate with relevant personnel across Premera. May mentor or advise less experienced staff.

  • Provide input to standardization of IT processes and ensure application of IT standard processes and requirements. Apply engineering best practices.

  • Participate in educational opportunities to build new and additional skills and maintain technical knowledge staying current with trends and opportunities in the field and share knowledge gained with teammates.

What you’ll bring: 

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science or Information Systems and (5-8) years of software development experience. At a minimum, must possess education and experience equivalent to a Bachelor's Degree plus (5) additional years of relevant experience, knowledge of software development lifecycle, and skills to utilize one or more programming languages.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience working with cloud solutions.

  • Experience in the healthcare industry or a highly regulated environment.

  • Technical knowledge and experience with specific technical tools used at Premera (i.e., SQL, DocumentDB (Mongo), C#, .NET, Azure, Service Buses, Azure DevOps, CI/CD, Micro Services).

  • Previous experience in an agile environment.

  • Exposure to API and service-based technologies.

  • Experience using and creating automated test tools.

  • Knowledge of AI integration tools like Power Automate and working experience with agenting AI.

  • Familiarity with data analytics tools such as SQL, Document DB (Mongo), and Azure.

  • Highly proficient skills and knowledge in developing systems and applications to solve business problems in a variety of situations. Successful development and deployment of technology solutions.

  • High quality application of systems coding and development tools and techniques. Strong systems knowledge as well as application of best practices. Ability to adapt rapidly to new technologies and products.

  • Ability to continually improve technical knowledge and skills and share technical knowledge with others.

  • Ability to play a lead role when needed related to technology development and deployment. Data analytic tool  

  • Strong written and verbal communication skills and good presentation skills for both technical and non-technical audiences.

The pay for this role will vary based on a range of factors including, but not limited to, a candidate’s geographic location, market conditions, and specific skills and experience.

The salary range for this role is posted below; we generally target up to and around the midpoint of the range.

National Plus Salary Range:

$109,000.00 - $185,300.00

*National Plus salary range is used in higher cost of labor markets including Western Washington and Alaska.
