The purpose of this announcement is to create an eligible list which will be used to fill future vacancies in this classification.

Job Description
Under general supervision, performs skilled metal fabrication work in forging, shaping and bending metals for the manufacture, repair and maintenance of machinery, equipment and facilities; and performs related duties as required.
EXAMPLES OF IMPORTANT AND ESSENTIAL DUTIES:
According to Civil Service Commission Rule 409, the duties specified below are representative of the range of duties assigned to this job code and are not intended to be an inclusive list.
- Forges, forms, bends, shapes, hardens and tempers various metals.
- Lays out, prefabricates, welds and installs new work.
- Replaces and renews worn and broken parts, tools and other equipment for cable cars, rail cars, buses, and other public transportation systems.
- Restores, straightens and aligns damaged, broken or worn vehicular and other equipment component parts.
- Designs and fabricates parts, tools, brackets and other equipment.
- Forges and sharpens tools, picks and other equipment.
- Operates electric and gas welding equipment in connection with metal fabricating work.
- Repairs or forges new tools; hardens and tempers punches, dies, shears and other tools.
- Works from blueprints, shop sketches, drawings, patterns or models.
- Finishes metal parts after completion of necessary fabrication processes.
- Makes all necessary fabrication and welding repairs to shop equipment and maintenance vehicles.
- Drives a vehicle to work sites and other locations to complete work assignments and other work related tasks.
Nature of work: requires physical effort and dexterity in the use of fingers, limbs and body; and working with high voltage equipment. May also involve possible exposure to dust and chemical fumes, which may require wearing of a respirator and other personal protective equipment; and working in inclement weather and conditions where minor injuries may occur.
Qualifications
Training and Experience:
- Three (3) years of fulltime verifiable experience as a journey level metal fabricator, ornamental ironworker, metalsmith, blacksmith or welder involved in general metal fabrication, metal forming, and welding work. This experience must include oxyacetylene, SMAW, MIG and TIG welding and carbon air arc cutting; AND
- Ability to lift 60 lbs. (will be tested during probationary period)
License:
Possession of a valid Class C driver license at the time of appointment

SELECTION PROCEDURE:

Written Multiple-Choice Examination (Weight: 100%):
Candidates deemed eligible and admitted to the examination process will be administered a written multiple-choice test designed to measure knowledge, skills and/or abilities in job-related areas which may include but not limited to: knowledge of methods and procedures used in forging, forming, bending, shaping, hardening, tempering, heat treating, finishing, and welding; knowledge of methods and procedures, including all applicable OSHA regulations, necessary to ensure safety of metal fabricators and other employees; knowledge of basic composition, characteristics, and uses of commonly used metals and equipment in the metal fabricating trade; ability to use hand, mechanical and welding tools and equipment for metal fabricating work; and ability to work cooperatively with co-workers of all levels.
This is a standardized examination and therefore, test questions and test answers are not available for public inspection or review.

Eligible List/Score Report:
A confidential eligible list of applicant names that have passed the civil service examination process will be created and used for certification purposes only. An examination score report will be established, so applicants can view the ranks, final scores and number of eligible candidates. Applicant information, including names of applicants on the eligible list, shall not be made public unless required by law. However, an eligible list shall be made available for public inspection, upon request once the eligible list is exhausted or expired and referrals resolved. The eligible list/score report resulting from this civil service examination process is subject to change after adoption (e.g., as a result of appeals), as directed by the Director of Transportation or the Civil Service Commission.
The duration of the eligible list resulting from this examination process will be of 12 months and may be extended with the approval of the Director of Transportation.
