Job Description

Research Data Scientist will assist the Texas A&M Natural Resources Institute (NRI) in supporting natural resource conservation policy, research, and extension efforts through the development and application of information technology.

Responsibilities:

- Experimental design, statistics, data cleaning, and data aggregation.

- Work with clients and staff on all levels, including faculty, staff, and NRI’s partners

- Development of complex statistical models to abstract problems and discover insights

- Confer with NRI staff to develop requirements and communicate findings

- Assess the viability of new technologies and frameworks

- Perform other job-related duties as assigned

Required Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field (e.g., Management Information Systems, Statistics, or Computer Science) or equivalent combination of education and experience.

Eight years’ experience and/or advanced degree in an applicable field (e.g., Management Information Systems, Statistics, or Computer Science).

Preferred experience:

- Background in natural resource conservation and/or wildlife management

Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

- R

- Python

- SQL

- Familiarity with GIS software and spatial data

- Database modeling

- Managing code using git

- JavaScript

- Jira

-Should have an appreciation for the outdoors, natural resources, and conservation of those resources.
