Role Title: Data Scientist

BU/Segment: Analytics / Data Management

Location:   London, United Kingdom (Flexible hybrid working)

Summary of the role:

EXL is looking for an experienced Traditional Data Scientist with 6–10 years of hands-on experience to join our growing Data & AI team. The ideal candidate will be a problem solver and technical expert in statistical modelling and machine learning, with the ability to deliver actionable insights from large and complex datasets. This role will support our key insurance clients and play a critical part in developing predictive models to drive business outcomes

As part of your duties, you will be responsible for:

  • Designing, developing, and evaluating supervised (classification and regression) and unsupervised machine learning models.
  • Handling end-to-end model lifecycle: data preprocessing, exploratory data analysis (EDA), model building, evaluation, and implementation.
  • Building and refining predictive models such as:
  •     - Classification: Logistic Regression, Decision Tree, Random Forest.
  •     - Regression: Linear Regression, Gradient Boosting, Neural Networks, KNN.
  •     - Unsupervised learning: K-means and other clustering techniques.
  • Developing propensity models and related solutions within the insurance business domain (Underwriting and Claims).
  • Conducting NLP-based data extraction and summarisation, including OCR-based document classification.
  • Working with cloud-based platforms such as AWS SageMaker and Databricks for scalable model deployment.
  • Collaborating with internal stakeholders, business users, and clients to translate data findings into actionable strategies.

Qualifications and experience we consider to be essential for the role:

  • 6–10 years of hands-on experience in data science and machine learning roles.
  • Strong programming skills in Python for data processing and model development.
  • Solid knowledge and implementation experience of statistical modelling techniques.
  • Experience in AWS SageMaker, Databricks, and related data science tools/platforms.
  • Exposure to NLP techniques for text extraction and classification tasks.
  • Experience building and deploying predictive models within the insurance domain, especially in underwriting and claims.
  • Prior experience working with large structured and unstructured datasets in a business context.

Skills and Personal attributes we would like to have:

  • Familiarity with Palantir Foundry and AIP is a strong advantage.
  • Proven track record of delivering business impact through analytical solutions.
  • Strong communication skills to explain technical results to non-technical audiences.
  • Team player with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced, client-facing environment.
  • Proactive, curious, and passionate about solving real-world problems using data.
