MISSION
Senior Lead Oil Analyst - Americas
- Working to tight deadlines: Promptly and precisely update the product oil balances to allow rapid dissemination to the trading desks and the research group.
- Working autonomously: the person must be able to work autonomously while at the same time regularly interacting with the Global Coordinators of crude and product analysis and the Director of oil.
- Reactivity: In a fast-paced and time-sensitive environment, there is an imperative to react quickly and be proactive in responding to informational demands from the trading desks
- Meetings: Participate in weekly meetings with the trading desk and the broader research group.
- Network development: engage in dialogue with data suppliers, consultants, and industry counterparts.
- Prepare U.S. oil product balances and oversee oil product balances for the Americas.
- Manage/oversee junior analysts in Houston.
- Manage/oversee graduates.
- Respond to ad-hoc informational requests: provide relevant commentary and analysis in response to ad-hoc informational requests from the research team and the trading desks.
- Manage the Houston market analysis share drive to ensure consistency with the Geneva share drive architecture to maintain business continuity.
Activities
Under the guidance of the Director for oil market analysis and in coordination with the Global Coordinators of crude oil and product analysis in Geneva:
Key Responsibilities
- Lead Data Collection & Analysis for Americas Oil Markets
Oversee the collection and processing of supply, demand, and trade data to ensure seamless integration with the Global Oil Balance. Drive improvements in data collection methodologies to enhance accuracy and efficiency. - Develop & Forecast Short-Term U.S. Oil Product Balances
Generate weekly reports on key oil products, forecasting demand and supply while tracking import/export trends by PADD. Collaborate closely with Geneva-based refinery analysts to refine assumptions on capacity, operating rates, and product yields. - Mentor & Manage Junior Analysts
Provide leadership and guidance to junior crude oil and product analysts in Houston, ensuring high-quality production of weekly U.S. oil balances and monthly forecasting of North American crude and condensate supply. Foster collaboration with global analysis coordinators to align regional insights with global strategies. - Guide Graduate Analysts in Market Research Rotation
Oversee and mentor graduates during their 6-month training rotation within the market analysis team. Support their development in oil balance production while providing coaching to cultivate analytical expertise. - Deliver Timely Market Insights to Trading Teams
Provide critical research and trend analysis through Microsoft Teams forums and email alerts, ensuring traders (both physical and derivatives) receive timely updates to navigate shifting market dynamics effectively. - Enhance & Maintain Data Reporting & Visualization
Lead the development of compelling data visualization dashboards (Power BI) to support evolving trading desk and research needs. Generate qualitative and quantitative reports, including API statistics, EIA reports, and rack sales charts for gasoline and diesel. - Support Global Oil Balance IntegrationContribute to the global market outlook by delivering comprehensive Americas oil balance reports for international desk analysts. Gather feedback, refine forecasts, and finalize global demand assessments.
- Ensure Seamless Knowledge Management & Collaboration
- Maintain the integrity of the Houston share drive, ensuring consistency with Geneva’s structure and safeguarding corporate research assets. Encourage collaboration and prevent research from being conducted outside structured business environments.
- Facilitate Cross-Regional Market Analysis Sharing
Ensure key analytical insights from international desk analysts are relayed effectively to local teams, strengthening global collaboration and alignment in market research - Champion a Culture of Inclusiveness & Excellence

DIMENSION
While closely working with the trading desks, the position is hierarchically independent and reports functionally to the TOTSA Director of oil market analysis based in Geneva and locally to the Head of ATMI in Houston.
Under the guidance of the Director of Oil Market Analysis:
- Develop and produce short-term oil product balances for the U.S.
- Oversee the junior crude oil analyst in Houston in producing the short-term U.S. crude oil balance.
- Supervise graduates in generating product balances for Latin America and the Caribbean.
- Manage and mentor junior analysts and graduate program interns to enhance team capabilities.
- Coordinate with Global Coordinators of crude and product analysis (Geneva) to integrate Americas product balances into the global oil balance database.
- Create and refine regular qualitative and quantitative reports for market insights.
- Develop and maintain data visualizations using PowerBI for effective analysis.
- Contribute to market analysis outputs through slide presentations, reports, and forum posts.
- Engage regularly with physical and derivatives trading desks to support ad-hoc informational needs.
PURPOSE
- Oversee oil product balance management for the Americas, including U.S. market analysis and reporting.
- Supervise and mentor junior analysts in Houston, providing guidance on analytical methodologies and industry insights.
- Manage graduate analysts, supporting their development and integration into the team.
- Respond to ad-hoc informational requests, delivering concise, relevant commentary and analysis to research teams and trading desks.
- Maintain and optimize market analysis share drives, ensuring consistency between Houston and Geneva for seamless business continuity.
Candidate Profile
You are someone who possesses the following:
Education:
- Master’s degree in economics, finance, statistics, econometrics, or a related engineering discipline.
Experience:
- Over five years of expertise in product and crude oil balance analysis within oil trading companies, consultancies, banks, or government agencies.
- Extensive understanding of the U.S. crude and oil product market, as well as U.S. refinery and pipeline operations.
- Strong drafting and presentation abilities with a focus on synthesis and conciseness.
- Ability to process and analyze large volumes of complex data efficiently.
- Proficient in Bloomberg and Reuters Eikon terminals.
Technical Proficiency:
- Advanced knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, particularly Excel and pivot tables.
- Familiar with SQL and multidimensional Cube data structures.
- Skilled in VBA and Python.
- Competent in Microsoft Power BI.
Other:
- Fluent in English (oral and written); proficiency in French is preferred.
