Job Description:
This job is responsible for developing and delivering complex requirements to accomplish business goals. Key responsibilities of the job include ensuring that software is developed to meet functional, non-functional and compliance requirements, and solutions are well designed with maintainability/ease of integration and testing built-in from the outset. Job expectations include a strong knowledge of development and testing practices common to the industry and design and architectural patterns.

Position Summary :

Bank of America is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Software Engineer to join our cutting-edge technology team. In this role, you will leverage your deep expertise in Core Java/Scala . The Core Java Big Data developer will be responsible for designing and delivering next generation event processing, alerting and analytics system. The candidate would be hands on developer working within Bank of America Global Markets Equities Data and Analytics group, building systems that help the Bank leverage the power of data helping a wide variety of users including front office execution services consultants, sales traders, data scientists and compliance. The role involves working with large volumes of data generated at very high velocity, typically billions of messages a day with peaks of several thousands of messages per second. Candidates must have a passion for building efficient, scalable and highly resilient systems working in a collaborative environment with multiple stake holders. Experience working with Machine Learning (ML), Artificial Intelligence (AI) and cloud platforms (AWS/ Azure /GCP ) is highly desirable.

Responsibilities:

  • Codes solutions and unit test to deliver a requirement/story per the defined acceptance criteria and compliance requirements
  • Designs, develops, and modifies architecture components, application interfaces, and solution enablers while ensuring principal architecture integrity is maintained
  • Mentors other software engineers and coach team on Continuous Integration and Continuous Development (CI-CD) practices and automating tool stack
  • Executes story refinement, definition of requirements, and estimating work necessary to realize a story through the delivery lifecycle
  • Performs spike/proof of concept as necessary to mitigate risk or implement new ideas
  • Automates manual release activities
  • Designs, develops, and maintains automated test suites (integration, regression, performance)
  • Lead the design, development, and implementation of scalable, high-performance applications using Java/Scala.
  • Apply expertise in Machine Learning (ML) to build predictive models, enhance decision-making capabilities, and drive business insights.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams to design, implement, and optimize cloud-based architectures on AWS and Azure.
  • Work with large-scale distributed technologies like Apache Kafka, Apache Spark, and Apache Storm to ensure seamless data processing and messaging at scale.
  • Provide expertise in Java multi-threading, concurrency, and other advanced Java concepts to ensure the development of high-performance, thread-safe, and optimized applications.
  • Architect and build data lakes and data pipelines for large-scale data ingestion, processing, and analytics.
  • Ensure integration of complex systems and applications across various platforms while adhering to best practices in coding, testing, and deployment.
  • Collaborate closely with stakeholders to understand business requirements and translate them into technical specifications.
  • Manage technical risk and work on performance tuning, scalability, and optimization of systems.
  • Provide leadership to junior team members, offering guidance and mentorship to help develop their technical skills.
  • Foster a culture of innovation, teamwork, and continuous improvement, ensuring that all software engineering processes align with Bank of America’s high standards of quality and compliance.
  • Participate in strategy discussions, offering insights on technology trends and innovations that could improve business outcomes.
  • Develop and deliver clear, concise technical documentation and presentations to various stakeholders, including executives and senior management.
  • Drive the adoption of new technologies and tools to continuously improve our software development lifecycle and operational efficiency.
  • Ensure adherence to security and regulatory standards, particularly in highly regulated industries like finance.

Required Qualifications:

  • Proven experience (4+ years) in software engineering, including advanced expertise in Java and related technologies.
  • Strong proficiency in Java programming with a deep understanding of core Java concepts and development best practices
  • Strong understanding and hands-on experience with developing, deploying and maintaining applications using Spring Boot and Spring Framework
  • Experience in both front-end and back-end development including working with frameworks, webservers and building end to end solutions
  • Solid experience working in containerized environments using OpenShift or Kubernetes
  • Proven experience in designing , developing and maintaining microservices based applications including working with RESTful API’s
  • Good understanding of distributed technologies and frameworks such as Apache Kafka and Apache Spark
  • Excellent understanding of relational databases like Oracle
  • Proficiency with version control systems like Git /Bitbucket and hands-on experience with CI/CD pipelines for automated testing and deployment
  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to lead complex technical discussions and make critical decisions.
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to present complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Self-motivated, proactive, and results-driven with the ability to work independently and collaboratively in a team environment.
  • Demonstrated leadership ability, including mentoring and developing talent within a technical team.
  • Experience working in financial services or a similarly regulated industry is a plus.
  • Experience with cloud technologies, particularly AWS or Azure is a plus.

Desired Qualifications:

  • Strong Development experience in Java (Core or Full Stack)
  • Experience with microservices architecture.
  • Familiarity with containerization technologies like Docker and orchestration tools like Kubernetes.
  • Knowledge of Big Data technologies such as Hadoop, Flink, or related platforms.
  • Familiarity with CI/CD pipelines and DevOps practices

Pay range

$102,900.00 - $180,000.00 annualized salary, offers to be determined based on experience, education and skill set.

Discretionary incentive eligible

This role is eligible to participate in the annual discretionary plan. Employees are eligible for an annual discretionary award based on their overall individual performance results and behaviors, the performance and contributions of their line of business and/or group; and the overall success of the Company.
