You will be an essential part of taking our platform to the next level both in scale and functionality, helping to advance best-in-class web performance for customers and their site visitors. We are searching for an execution-oriented Full-Stack Data Engineer who thrives on turning plans into results to join our Platform Insights team. The ideal candidate will have experience in both software engineering and data engineering, as well as a history of delivering high quality work in an agile  environment.


THE DAY TO DAY
  • Be a phenomenal teammate to the other members of your agile team by communicating, collaborating and building a constructive environment

  • Explain results of data analyses and experiments to stakeholders, including creating/maintaining visualizations and delivering presentations

  • Design and execute data analyses and experiments, including data collection, data cleaning, normalization, and feature extraction

  • Build and maintain data engineering pipelines

  • Collaborate with your data science colleagues by being a willing mentee and an understanding mentor, as appropriate

  • Collaborate with your software engineer colleagues to make models available to larger software undertakings (e.g., setting up CLI scripts or REST services)

  • Work closely with our product manager to ensure that your frequent, incremental progress continually adds new value to our customers

  • Write, test, and maintain software applications that are resilient, robust, and perform at scale for millions of end users

  • Research new technologies and incorporate them into new and existing systems and products


WHAT WE EXPECT

Within your first 30 days, you should be able to:

  • Integrate into our existing kanban processes

  • Understand the team’s data assets and models

  • Get access and familiarize yourself with core tools (we use dbt and GCP)

  • Read through documentation and architecture diagrams of our batch and streaming pipelines

  • Set up a local dev environment for dbt, and successfully run proposed pipeline changes


Within your first 90 days, you should be able to:

  • Understand the company’s platform SLIs and SLOs

  • Understand the company’s data assets and models

  • Represent the team to internal and external stakeholders

  • Own and deliver 1–2 moderately complex dbt models for platform metrics (e.g., platform-wide metrics, error anomaly summaries)

  • Create an automated data quality alert using dbt tests

  • Build a lightweight model in a Jupyter notebook, integrate it with BigQuery, and schedule its output to refresh weekly via Cloud Run


Within your first 180 days, you should be able to:

  • Propose new projects

  • Lead team initiatives, including providing direction for colleagues

  • Represent team in cross-team initiatives

  • Help define API and data contracts

  • Establish quality metrics and estimate effort

  • Design and implement a new dbt model family or Cloud Run-based automation that becomes part of our regular platform insights stack

  • Refactor or optimize an existing data pipeline to improve runtime or reliability

  • Develop and document an end-to-end model or analytic workflow that leverages BigQuery, Cloud Run, and Jupyter to solve a persistent business problem.
     

PREFERRED SKILLS
  • Grafana or other similar visualization platforms

  • Experience with New Relic, Datadog or other similar tools

  • Time series databases

  • Experience working with large data sets

  • Data engineering

  • Experience with data modeling, designing APIs and SQL development

Base Salary Range

$128,000.00 - $192,000.00

We believe that compensation should be reflective of the impact you have within the organization relative to the market value of your role. The estimated base salary range for this position is as listed above. Some roles may also be eligible for overtime pay. Our salary ranges are determined by job role and responsibilities and level. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for salaries for the position nationwide. The actual base pay will vary based on various factors including job-related skills and individual qualifications objectively assessed during the interview process.
