About the role:
Maersk is incorporating machine learning and mathematical optimization into our core operations to elevate decision-making processes. We are actively searching for a skilled Analytics Engineer to join our team and contribute to the expansion of our advanced analytics capabilities. In this position, you will collaborate closely with cross-functional teams to identify business requirements, develop impactful solutions, and implement algorithms focused on improving operational efficiency and decision-making. You will collaborate with peers, mathematical optimization experts, business specialists, and software developers to pioneer and develop our ambition to transform how we design one of the world’s largest container shipping network.

What you’ll be doing:
As an Analytics Engineer within the Network Strategy team, your primary responsibility will be to develop advanced decision-support tools in close collaboration with Maersk’s business stakeholders. These tools will play a critical role in shaping the design of our global network and ocean products.
You will be at the forefront of building and deploying optimization algorithms that enhance operational efficiency and enable data-driven decision-making across our shipping network. Your work will directly influence how we plan, adapt, and optimize our services in a dynamic global environment. Working alongside subject matter experts, you’ll identify opportunities to create additional value by evolving our analytical tools and models to better support strategic and tactical decisions. Reporting to the Lead Analytics Engineer of the network strategy team, you will play a key role in shaping the vision for leveraging software to optimize Maersk's business operations.
To succeed in this role, we believe that you can offer:
A strong technical background, holding a top of class master's or PhD degree in engineering, mathematics, or computer science, with a focus on artificial intelligence/machine learning and/or mathematical optimization/operations research
You ideally have a minimum of 2 years of professional experience in software development, specifically in the domain of algorithms and optimization tools. You excel at translating business requirements into mathematical and quantitative models and adhere to best software development practices.
You have an analytical mindset and thrive in solving intricate technical challenges. Strong communication and interpersonal skills are required to enable seamless collaboration within teams and with external stakeholders. Proficiency in both written and oral English is essential for this role
You possess significant expertise in the following areas:
- Applying advanced analytics and/or AI to address real-world challenges.
- Software development, particularly in C++ and Python.
Plus experience with one or more of the following fields
- Graph theory and its applications.
- Statistical and probability analysis.
- Combinatorial optimisation
- Metaheuristics
