WW Amazon Stores Finance Science (ASFS) works to leverage science and economics to drive improved financial results, foster data backed decisions, and embed science within Finance. ASFS is focused on developing products that empower controllership, improve business decisions and financial planning by understanding financial drivers, and innovate science capabilities for efficiency and scale.
We are looking for a research scientist to lead high visibility initiatives for forecasting Amazon Stores' financials. You will develop new science-based forecasting methodologies and build scalable models to improve financial decision making and planning for senior leadership up to VP and SVP level. You'll design and implement innovative and automated end-to-end ML and statistical forecasting solutions that aim to transform financial planning for Amazon Stores.
The ideal candidate will be an innovative problem solver with strong business judgment, leveraging techniques such as machine learning, econometric modeling, time series forecasting and statistics to advance Amazon Stores' financial planning capabilities. You are excited to learn from and alongside seasoned scientists, engineers, and business leaders. You are an excellent communicator and effectively translate technical findings into business action.
Key job responsibilities
Drive model development and improvement through machine learning, statistics, econometrics and analytical techniques to create scalable solutions for business problems
Design, develop and evaluate highly innovative models for forecasting problems
Work with technical and non-technical stakeholders across every step of science project life cycle
Collaborate with finance, product, data engineering, and software engineering teams to build models and algorithms
Develop an understanding of key business metrics/KPIs and connect them to levers that shape management decisions
Innovate by adapting new modeling techniques and procedures
Contribute to Amazon's science community through internal and external publications
- PhD or Master's Degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Economics or related field
- The ability to implement models and tools through the use of scripting languages (e.g. Python, R)
- Experience with Time Series Modeling and/or Predictive Modeling techniques.
- Knowledge of AWS tech stack (e.g., AWS Redshift, S3, EC2, Glue)
- Expertise in a broad range of statistics and machine learning methods
- 2+ years of experience building statistics or machine learning models for business applications

Our compensation reflects the cost of labor across several US geographic markets. The base pay for this position ranges from $113,000/year in our lowest geographic market up to $195,200/year in our highest geographic market. Pay is based on a number of factors including market location and may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. Amazon is a total compensation company. Basic Qualifications
- PhD or Master's Degree in Statistics, Machine Learning, Mathematics, Economics or related field
