Are you passionate about policy and really interested in research? As the Research & Analysis Intern, you will play a material role in maintaining our company’s reputation for excellence and accuracy.
The Growth Management & Strategy (GMS) department is our central hub for resources which build strong company-client relationships. At a high level, you will update and improve important back-end data sources; research, summarize, and create visualizations of policy and other data; and develop resources which will improve the effectiveness of our business development and strategic client relationship planning.
This position is part time, 20-25 hrs/week.
This experience will grant you insight into:
- The utility regulatory process and how utility clean transportation and solar incentive programs work
- The United States utilities landscape
You will also gain or deepen your talents in:
- Conducting and summarizing regulatory, policy, and utility industry research
- Management and analysis of large datasets
- Building data reports
The resources you will leverage include:
- Microsoft Excel
- Tableau
- Energy Information Administration Electric Power Industry Report
- Energy Information Administration Natural Gas Annual Respondent Query System
- State Public Utility Commission Docket Systems
A day in the life of this role:
- Research Clean Transportation & Solar Policy
- Reviewing existing documentation in Research & Analysis document libraries
- Tracing the life cycle of policies and reviewing, recording, and summarizing information found in Public Utility Commission dockets
- Refresh the Research & Analysis Client Database
- Utilize Energy Information Administration reports, Salesforce, and other internal data sources to update the Energy Solutions Client Database
- Develop a pivot table in Excel to consolidate data for dual fuel utilities
- Use the updated Client Database to update other databases, which we use to facilitate company market understanding
- Create visualizations of the updated data for presentation purposes using Tableau
- Update Research & Analysis Client Profiles
- Confirm the accuracy of existing Profiles and transfer data from the existing template to a new one
- Research utility websites, online news publications, Salesforce, R&A resources, and the Energy Solutions SharePoint to update any outdated information
To set you up for success, our ideal candidate will have Intermediate skills in:
- Excel
Though not required, we prefer a candidate who:
- Is enrolled in a program that provides exposure to environmental or regulatory policy and some quantitative training
Compensation:
- Undergraduate student: $21/hr
- Graduate student: $24/hr
In order to be eligible for this position, you must be:
- Currently enrolled full- or part-time in an undergraduate program as a second to fourth-year student or enrolled in a graduate program.

- A US Citizen or permanent resident.

- Available to meet your weekly hours requirement between September and November 2025.

- Be between 1 and 3 pages long, single or double spaced, not including sources. You may submit a document longer than 3 pages but we will not read past the 3rd page.
- Demonstrate your ability to communicate your thinking about an idea. This is vague by design; anything that you wrote—whether for a class, a job, or for personal reasons—and are proud of will probably suffice.
- Focus on a topic that is important to you. The topic does not have to be related to the internship you are applying for, but if it is, all the better.
