Neogen Corporation is seeking a Research Scientist to join our team. In this role, you will support the research and development of diagnostic assays and devices used to quantify natural toxins and other contaminants in foods and ingredients. This position plays a key role in experimental design, data analysis, and cross-functional coordination to help bring innovative food safety products to market. The ideal candidate will have strong scientific expertise in assay development, food safety diagnostics, and project leadership.

This role follows an onsite model to accommodate business needs while maintaining team collaboration.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform research and development of diagnostic assays and detection devices for food and ingredient testing.

  • Design and execute experiments to improve or expand existing Neogen product claims.

  • Collect, analyze, and interpret experimental data, recording results and communicating findings to senior team members.

  • Guide cross-functional coordination with Product Management, Manufacturing, and Quality Control teams to ensure timely project progression.

  • Supervise and mentor Technicians and Associate Scientists on the R&D team.

  • Prepare and present data at internal R&D meetings; contribute to abstracts, posters, and manuscripts for external scientific forums.

  • Maintain project timelines and ensure timely availability of necessary materials and equipment.

  • Stay current with relevant scientific literature, regulatory developments, and emerging technologies in food safety diagnostics.

  • Represent R&D on project teams and provide scientific insight during commercialization planning.

  • Experience or familiarity with data science, spectral imaging, spectroscopy, or Python programming is a plus.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s or advanced degree (Master’s or PhD preferred) in Biology, Chemistry, Food Science, or a related scientific field.

  • 3 – 5 years' experience in assay development, diagnostic research, or a related scientific research role, preferably in the food safety or life sciences industry.

  • Demonstrated ability to plan and execute scientific research projects, analyze complex data, and contribute to scientific publications.

  • Strong organizational and communication skills, with experience leading or mentoring junior team members.

  • Knowledge of food safety diagnostic techniques and regulatory compliance is highly desirable.
