POSITION DESCRIPTION

The Elementary Math Content Writer is a contract role that serves as part of PowerMyLearning's Product Team and reports to the Director of Math. There are two different specializations for Math Content Writers:

  • Game design: Design original, standards-based offline math games for grades 3-5 and create all resources required to facilitate and play the game, including instructions, materials, and formative assessment prompts
  • Supporting resources: Create supporting resources for grades 3-5 math games, including warm-up problems, teacher notes, video scripts, and mini-lessons

The Elementary Math Content Writer position will begin in July 2025 and will conclude no later than April 2026.


KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Develop high-quality, standards-aligned math learning activities and formative assessment items for grades 3-5, to be included on PowerMyLearning Connect
  • Compose activity descriptions, instructions, draft images, and teacher notes to guide use
  • Collaborate with PowerMyLearning content and product teams and advisors to design rigorous digital learning activities and formative assessments for grades 3–5 math, ensuring superior alignment of products to Common Core standards and instructional design principles
  • Meets weekly with the Director of Math to revise learning activities
  • Meet as needed with fellow Elementary Math Content Writers to ideate, review, and write content
  • Ensure that activities, assessments, and playlists are published in a timely and efficient fashion while meeting all requirements and guidelines

CANDIDATE QUALIFICATIONS

Required

  • Experience writing published math curriculum or digital math learning experiences
  • Bachelor's degree mathematics, math education, or relevant area
  • Teaching credential in mathematics, elementary education, or relevant area
  • At least 5 years teaching experience in math grades 3–8, including experience incorporating digital resources
  • Strong working knowledge of Common Core State Standards in K-8 math, including best practices for creating standards-based content
  • Strong working knowledge of Illustrative Mathematics or high-quality instructional materials for math
  • Deep understanding of research-based supports for multilingual learners in math instruction
  • Strong project management skills including ability to multi-task, prioritize, and meet deadlines
  • Excellent communication skills, especially writing and editing succinct externally-facing text for teachers, students, and families
  • High level of comfort working collaboratively as part of a cross-functional team
  • Proficiency working with ChatGPT, GSuite, spreadsheets, and project management software

Preferred

  • Master's degree in education, math education, or a related field
  • Experience teaching diverse student populations
  • Understanding of how to use AI effectively and responsibly within content writing
  • Experience storyboarding for animated videos

COMPENSATION

Elementary Math Content Writers will be compensated upon successful completion of deliverables:

  • Game Design: $400 per original math game (including instructions, materials, and formative assessment prompts)
  • Supporting resources: $400 per set of supporting resources associated with a math game (including warm-up problems, teacher notes, video scripts, and mini-lessons)
