Position Summary:

As a Data Engineering for J&J MedTech Quality, you will play a pivotal role in building the modern cloud data platform by demonstrating your in-depth technical expertise and interpersonal skills. In this role, you will be required to focus on accelerating data products development as part of the fast-paced data platform team. We are a diverse and growing team, that nurture creativity, deep understanding of data processing techniques, and the use of sophisticated analytics technologies to deliver results.

Data Engineering Responsibilities (70%)

  • Develop, optimize, and maintain complex SQL queries, and scripts for data transformation, validation, and reporting!.
  • Build and handle data pipelines in Azure, maximising services such as Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Databricks.
  • Design and implement ETL/ELT processes to integrate data from different sources into a centralized data lake or warehouse!.
  • Ensure data integrity, security, and compliance with regulatory standards such as GxP and data governance policies.
  • Optimize database performance, indexing strategies, and query execution plans for efficient data processing.
  • Implement monitoring, logging, and alerting mechanisms to ensure data pipelines run smoothly and efficiently.
  • Partner with DevOps teams to automate data pipeline deployments using CI/CD standard methodologies.
  • Support data governance and data quality initiatives by defining business rules, metadata standards, and validation criteria.
  • Solve and resolve data issues, ensuring high availability and reliability of data services.

Business Analyst Responsibilities (30%)

  • Collaborate with business partners to capture, analyze, and document data requirements, ensuring alignment with business goals.
  • Partner closely with data engineers, architects, and analysts.
  • Develop data models, workflows, and process documentation to improve data-driven decision-making.
  • Design test cases for data validation and ensure business requirements are met.

Qualifications:

Education:

Bachelor’s degree or equivalent experience in computer science, Information Systems, Data Engineering, or a related field.

Required:

  • Proven ability as a Business Analyst, Data Engineer, or in a hybrid role within a life sciences company.
  • Strong SQL development experience, including writing complex queries, stored procedures, and performance tuning.
  • Hands-on experience with Azure Data Factory, Azure Synapse Analytics, and Databricks for building and running data pipelines.
  • Demonstrable experience working with GxP data, regulatory requirements and data governance frameworks.
  • Ability to translate business requirements into technical specifications and data models.
  • Experience with Agile methodologies, sprint planning, and backlog management using tools like JIRA or Azure DevOps.
  • Good communication and customer management skills, with the ability to work across business and technical teams.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities to resolve data-related issues effectively.
  • Experience with Python, PySpark, or other programming languages for data engineering tasks.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Experience with additional Azure services such as Fabric, Copilot, Power BI, and Cognitive services is a plus.
  • Familiarity with FAIR data principles (Findable, Accessible, Interoperable, and Reusable) for data governance.
  • Previous experience in clinical, manufacturing, or regulatory data management within pharma or MedTech.
  • Certification in Azure Data Engineering or Business Analysis (e.g., Microsoft Certified: Azure Data Engineer Associate).

This position may require up to 10% domestic & international travel

  • The anticipated salary for this position will be between 77,000- 124,200 USD$. Bay Area California 89,000- 142,600 USD$

The Company maintains highly competitive, performance-based compensation programs. Under current guidelines, this position is eligible for an annual performance bonus in accordance with the terms of the applicable plan.

The annual performance bonus is a cash bonus intended to provide an incentive to achieve annual targeted results by rewarding for individual and the corporation’s performance over a calendar/performance year. Bonuses are awarded at the Company’s discretion on an individual basis.
