Postdoc in Digital-Signal-Processing for Continuous-Variable Quantum Key Distribution - DTU Physics
Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark
DTU - Technical University of Denmark
DTU er et teknisk eliteuniversitet med international rækkevidde og standard. Vores mission er at udvikle og nyttiggøre naturvidenskab og teknisk videnskab til gavn for samfundet. Are you passionate about working at the absolute forefront of technology? Explore the frontier of continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) – a revolutionary approach to secure communication that blends quantum physics with familiar telecom technology.
Continuous-variable quantum key distribution (CV-QKD) offers unique advantages for the distribution of secret keys between two parties for data encryption. Utilizing components similar to standard telecom components makes it an attractive solution for cost-effective and high-performance metropolitan applications. Technology exhibits significant parallels with coherent optical telecommunication. However, noise is absolute crucial, as it is attributed to an eavesdropper, therefore presenting exciting challenges and opportunities.
Within this position you will advance digital-signal-processing techniques for coherent and squeezed state CV-QKD by developing new algorithms and by evaluating them in simulations and in experiments.
The position will be hosted by the Section of Quantum Physics and Information Technology (QPIT) at the Department of Physics of the Technical University of Denmark (DTU). We are a dynamic, innovative and diverse research team focused on all aspects of CV-QKD. Our team is passionate about advancing secure communication methods based on quantum physics and bringing quantum key distribution to the people. We have a wide range of academic and industry collaborations, e.g. as part of the EU Flagship on quantum technology and the European Quantum Communication Infrastructure.
Responsibilities and qualifications
We are looking for a highly motivated candidate who will conduct research in advanced digital signal processing techniques for continuous-variable quantum key distribution by developing new algorithms and performing experimental evaluation. In this role you will:
- Conduct research on digital signal processing algorithms towards high-speed CV-QKD
- Develop new methods for e.g. clock and phase recovery that support real-time high-speed implementations
- Use machine learning to improve discrete modulation formats
- Develop MATLAB or python code
- Experimentally demonstrate the developed algorithms and methods to evaluate their performance
You have a passion for digital-signal-processing algorithms for coherent telecommunication systems, and you are intrigued by its application in continuous-variable quantum key distribution. You enjoy finding clever solutions to difficult problems and possess the following qualifications:
- Experience with modern digital signal processing techniques for optical telecommunication or continuous-variable quantum key distribution, e.g. matched-filtering, phase recovery, clock recovery, polarization equalization, etc.
- Experience with python or MATLAB programming
- Experience with version control systems (e.g. Git)
- Hand-on experience with fiber optic setups
- You thrive by working in a diverse and multidisciplinary team of people
As a formal qualification, you must hold a PhD degree (or equivalent).
