Principal Engineer, Product Platform

ADT is in the process of transitioning to a hybrid in-office work model, which combines the best of in-office and remote work. New team members will work from home, but should plan to return to a hybrid in-office model at a later date. We will keep you well informed and supported throughout the transition. What You'll Do:

As a Principal Engineer, you will serve as a key technical leader driving the architecture, scalability, and innovation of our cloud services platform. In this high-impact role, you’ll focus on evolving the core backend infrastructure that powers ADT’s smart security ecosystem—with a strong emphasis on distributed systems, AI-driven capabilities, and reliability at scale.

You’ll collaborate across engineering teams to define technical strategy, lead architectural decisions, and prototype cutting-edge solutions—especially where cloud, data, and machine learning intersect. This role demands deep technical expertise, a collaborative mindset, and a strong product sense. It’s a unique opportunity to shape the future of home security and automation for millions of users.

Architecture & System Design

• Lead the architecture of ADT’s next-generation cloud services platform, including real-time data processing, event-driven systems, and scalable APIs.
• Design resilient, secure, and highly available microservices to support mission-critical features across ADT’s product ecosystem.
• Partner with senior technical and product leaders to align platform goals with business needs.

AI & Innovation Leadership

• Drive the integration of AI and machine learning into ADT’s cloud infrastructure, including computer vision, anomaly detection, and intelligent automation.
• Collaborate with partner companies to operationalize models at scale.
• Prototype and incubate new AI-powered services that enhance customer experience and security outcomes.

Cross-Team Technical Leadership

• Guide architecture reviews, set technical standards, and mentor senior engineers.
• Advise engineering managers and directors on complex technical tradeoffs.
• Promote best practices in observability, CI/CD, infrastructure-as-code, security, and cost optimization.

Scalability & Performance

• Identify and resolve performance bottlenecks in high-throughput systems.
• Lead horizontal scaling efforts across data pipelines, APIs, and real-time services.
• Ensure operational excellence through monitoring, alerting, and auto-remediation.

Hands-On Impact

• Lead by example through code contributions, prototypes, and architectural documentation.
• Collaborate with SRE and on-call teams to resolve high-priority production issues.
• Stay current with emerging technologies in cloud computing, AI/ML infrastructure, and serverless systems—and bring those insights to ADT’s platform.

What You'll Need:

• 10+ years of experience in backend or infrastructure engineering, with significant time spent in cloud-native environments.
• Proven experience designing and scaling distributed systems on AWS, GCP, or Azure.
• Proficiency in at least one major backend language (e.g., Go, Java, Kotlin, Python) and strong system performance tuning skills.
• Expertise in service-oriented architecture, microservices, and event-driven or stream processing systems.
• Excellent communication and leadership skills, with the ability to influence and mentor across teams.
• Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or equivalent experience. 

Compensation & Benefits:

The salary range for this role is $149,600.00 - $224,400.00  and is based on experience and qualifications

Certain roles are eligible for annual bonus and may include equity. These awards are allocated based on company and individual performance.
