As an Actuarial Analyst at TRANZACT, you will support the profitable growth of the business by contributing to a wide range of projects, including actuarial modelling, data analysis, and results reporting. You will work closely with the Senior Actuary and cross-functional teams such as Accounting, Marketing, IT, and Data Science to ensure accurate data flows into actuarial models and deliver high-quality insights that inform strategic decisions. Your work will help shape value narratives that combine quantitative findings with business context. Additionally, you’ll serve as a resource to internal stakeholders, promoting awareness and understanding of the value our actuarial work brings to the organization.
This role offers significant opportunities to develop actuarial skills, business acumen, and cross-functional collaboration. You will gain hands-on experience with retiree health care and individual insurance products such as Medicare and supplemental coverages, while deepening your technical expertise in tools like Excel, Python and Databricks. Responsibilities:
- Calculate the Actuarial Appraisal Value of the business, ensuring accuracy and consistency.
- Review the calculation and deliveries of the external actuarial consultant.
- Collaborate with team members to implement process improvements and automation initiatives.
- Contribute to data quality reviews to support accurate and reliable analysis.
- Develop quantitative analyses for internal clients using established actuarial models.
- Support the development and enhancement of new actuarial models and tools.
- Participate in persistency studies to evaluate business performance and retention metrics.
- Engage in cross-functional projects with teams such as Finance, Sales, Member Experience, Accounting, and Data Science to develop innovative tools and strategies that drive TRANZACT’s growth.
- Actively contribute to the continuous improvement of the Actuarial Function.
- Establish credibility with internal stakeholders by delivering high-quality, timely results.
- Foster a collaborative, team-oriented, and client-focused environment driven by business and technical challenges.
- Build strong working relationships and collaborate effectively with colleagues in alignment with TRANZACT’s values.
What you need to be successful:
- 1–3 years of experience in a consulting firm or health insurance company or carrier in roles related to actuarial science (e.g., technical analysis, risk assessment, modelling, or actuarial functions).
- Experience with retiree health care benefits and insurance is a plus.
- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in a quantitative field such as actuarial science, mathematics, statistics, economics, or a related discipline.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and VBA is required.
- Experience with Power BI and Python is highly desirable.
- Intermediate knowledge of SQL, R, or DAX is a plus.
- Familiarity with Databricks is an advantage, though not required.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills in English.
- Proven ability to manage multiple projects and deliver high-quality work on time.
- Strong client service orientation with the ability to respond promptly and professionally.
- Team-oriented and collaborative, with excellent interpersonal skills.
- Strong analytical, critical thinking, and problem-solving abilities.
