Job Description:

 

What will you do?  

As a Senior Data Engineer, you will play a key role in building and maintaining NIBC’s Cloud Data Platform. Working closely with the Platform Engineer and other data engineers, you will be responsible for implementing robust and scalable data pipelines that ensure smooth data flows. You will collaborate and guide a medior and junior Data Engineer to develop reusable templates, optimize data solutions, and support the integration of data management tooling. Your work will directly contribute to the success of our data-driven initiatives by enabling high-quality, reliable, and accessible data for the entire organization. 

 

You will be the technical backbone of the data engineering team, translating strategic direction into practical implementation together with the Platform Engineer. You will ensure that our data platform is not only functional but also efficient, secure, and future-proof. Key Responsibilities:  

  • Pipeline Development: Design, build, and maintain scalable and reusable data pipelines and templates using Azure Data Factory, Databricks (Unity Catalog), and DBT; 
  • Data Flow Management: Ensure seamless data ingestion, transformation, and delivery; 
  • Platform Optimization: Optimize data storage and compute resources on Azure using Terraform, ensuring performance and cost-efficiency; 
  • Tooling Support: Provide technical support for data management tools and interfaces, including SODA and Profisee (pre); 
  • Collaboration: Work closely with the Platform Engineer and other Data Engineers to implement solutions aligned with the team’s strategic direction; 
  • CI/CD Integration: Contribute to the automation of deployment processes and continuous integration pipelines; 
  • Documentation: Maintain clear documentation of data flows, pipeline logic, and architectural decisions; 
  • Continuous Improvement: Identify opportunities to improve data engineering practices and platform capabilities. 
  • Continuous learning and development: You have a passion for what you do, so you use your development budget to develop your hard and soft skills. you are up to date with industry trends and best practices in data ingestion, emerging technologies and building a secure platform. 

 

Your team  

We created the Data & Analytics department to enable our business to deliver high quality data products using a modern cloud data platform. The mission of this technology driven department is to ensure that data can be sourced, ingested, integrated, and consumed through well designed, automated, and simple to use services and frameworks. The platform team is pivotal in this effort, being responsible for a stable platform and enabling the business-oriented spokes to deliver value. We run the maintenance of the platform and enable new interfaces e.g., scraping, and manual files uploads.

What do you bring?  

  • Educational Qualification: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Data Engineering, Information Technology, or a related field; 
  • Experience: 5+ years of experience in data engineering, with a strong focus on cloud-based data platforms; 
  • Technical Skills: Proficiency in Azure Data Factory, ADLS, Databricks (Unity Catalog), DBT, Terraform, Git and CI/CD pipelines; 
  • Bonus Skills: Experience with data management tools such as SODA and Profisee is a plus; 
  • Mindset: Analytical, detail-oriented, and solution-driven with a passion for clean, efficient, and scalable data solutions; 
  • Team Player: Strong communication skills and the ability to work collaboratively in a cross-functional team; 
  • Agile Experience: Familiarity with working in Agile/Scrum environments;
  • Analytical mindset; 
  • Craftsmanship for your role; 
  • Experience with risk or banking-specific regulations is an advantage.
