We are seeking a visionary and technically accomplished Principal Data Scientist specializing in Generative AI (GenAI) to lead the development, deployment, and optimization of state-of-the-art GenAI models across BDS. This role requires deep expertise in machine learning and large language models (LLMs), a strong understanding of foundational model architectures, and a track record of delivering scalable AI solutions in real-world settings. You will collaborate cross-functionally with engineering, product, data, and domain teams to drive innovation and shape the future of AI-driven applications in our organization.
Successful candidates will have:
- Experience developing and deploying GenAI solutions in regulated industries (e.g., defense, healthcare, finance).
- Familiarity with GPU compute infrastructure and distributed model training.
- Contributions to open-source GenAI projects or research publications.
- Experience with vector databases (e.g., Weaviate, Pinecone) and scalable RAG/GraphRAG systems.
- Experience with container technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Position Responsibilities:
- Lead the development and deployment of cutting-edge GenAI models including LLMs, diffusion models, Agentic models and multi-modal systems (text, vision, speech).
- Design and implement pipelines for model fine-tuning, RAG (Retrieval-Augmented Generation), and reinforcement learning from human feedback (RLHF).
- Develop and evaluate prompt engineering strategies, embedding techniques, and knowledge injection into foundation models.
- Prototype and productionize GenAI applications that solve complex business problems (e.g., document summarization, code generation, content creation, semantic search).
- Own model performance evaluation and bias/fairness assessments to ensure reliability and ethical deployment.
- Collaborate with MLOps and software engineering teams to scale model inference, monitor drift, and automate retraining.
- Provide thought leadership on GenAI strategy, toolchains (e.g., LangChain, Hugging Face, OpenAI, Anthropic, etc.), and industry trends.
- Mentor junior data scientists and contribute to the development of a high-performing AI team.
- Author technical papers, patents, and internal best practices on GenAI development and governance
This position is hybrid. The selected candidate will be required to perform some work onsite at one of the listed location options. This is at the hiring team’s discretion and could potentially change in the future.
The position must meet Export Control compliance requirements, therefore a “US Person” as defined by 22 C.F.R. § 120.15 is required. “US Person” includes US Citizen, lawful permanent resident, refugee, or asylee.
Basic Qualifications (Required Skills/Experience):
- Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Physics or a closely related field.
- 8+ years of experience in data science or machine learning
- 8+ years of experience in deep learning frameworks
- 2+ years of experience focused on GenAI/LLM applications
- 1+ year of experience fine-tuning open-source LLMs and integrating APIs from commercial providers.
- 8+ years of experience programming in Python, and experience with data engineering workflows (e.g., Spark, Airflow, SQL]
Preferred Qualifications (Desired Skills/Experience):
- Master’s degree or PhD in Computer Science, Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Computer Engineering, Software Engineering, Artificial Intelligence, Physics or a closely related field
- Experience developing and deploying GenAI solutions in regulated industries.
