Who are you?
You are a strategic and experienced data governance leader who recognises that trusted, well-managed data is the foundation of customer value, compliance, and commercial growth. You are motivated by the responsibility of protecting the trust placed in Cotality by our data providers, partners, and customers, and you take pride in setting high standards for ethical, compliant, and responsible data management.
You bring a track record of leading data governance functions or teams, combining strong enterprise thinking with a pragmatic, delivery-focused mindset. You thrive in complex, data-rich environments, and you know how to bring structure, clarity, and accountability to ambiguity. You are highly collaborative, a strong communicator, and comfortable operating across technical, legal, and commercial stakeholder groups — from front-line teams to senior executives.
Most of all, you are excited by the opportunity to build and lead a high-impact governance team, shape and scale Cotality’s data governance frameworks, and ensure our data practices evolve to support the future of property intelligence and innovation.
What is the role?
The Director of Data Governance leads the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of Cotality’s enterprise data governance frameworks, with a specific focus on our most critical property-related data assets. In this role, you will ensure that data is trusted, compliant, and responsibly managed across the entire value chain — from acquisition and creation to delivery and use.
At Cotality, we acquire and generate vast volumes of data from a wide variety of sources. Our data partners and suppliers place significant trust in us to use this information ethically and within permitted purposes. Equally, our customers trust that the data products they receive are governed to the highest standards — with clear provenance, documented use cases, and regulatory confidence. Upholding and strengthening this trust is central to the role.
As Cotality Australia and New Zealand’s most senior data governance leader, you will drive enterprise-wide initiatives while leading a small, high-impact team of data stewards. You’ll work cross-functionally with legal, compliance, product, and technology teams, as well as external partners and regulators, to embed scalable governance processes. This includes defining data ownership and stewardship models, implementing governance technologies, and enabling operational practices that protect and elevate the long-term integrity, quality, and value of Cotality’s data assets.
Location and Office Arrangements
This role is open to both Sydney and Brisbane applicants. The Sydney office is located on the corner of George and King St in the heart of the city and the Brisbane office is located on Duncan St in Fortitude Valley. Candidates should live within a commutable distance of these locations.
What Will You be Doing?
- Lead the development and continuous improvement of Cotality’s enterprise data governance frameworks, policies, and standards.
- Build and manage a high-performing team of data stewards, fostering a culture of data accountability, integrity, and cross-functional collaboration.
- Define and embed data ownership and stewardship models by partnering with business units to operationalise roles and responsibilities.
- Oversee governance processes for metadata management, data lineage, and policy enforcement across critical data domains.
- Partner with legal, risk, compliance, product, and technology teams to align governance efforts with data privacy laws, ethical use principles, and permitted use frameworks.
- Drive adoption of governance technologies (e.g., Collibra, data catalogues, lineage tools) to ensure data assets are discoverable, documented, and trusted.
- Act as the face of data governance across the organisation, leading governance forums, publishing insights and metrics, and representing the function at senior leadership levels.
- Define and track KPIs to measure governance program effectiveness and communicate business impact.
- Champion data literacy and awareness, delivering clear communications, training, and support materials to build governance capability.
- Collaborate across the broader data management ecosystem, including teams focused on data acquisition, quality, engineering, operations, architecture, and modelling.
- WHS: All Cotality workers must take reasonable care for their own health and safety at work, ensure their actions do not compromise the safety of others, follow reasonable instructions to support Cotality’s WHS obligations, and actively participate in the WHS Framework, including required training. Workers are encouraged to seek clarification from management as needed.
