The NSW Department of Communities and Justice is the lead agency in the new Stronger Communities Cluster. The new Stronger Communities Cluster brings together, and replaces, the Family and Communities and Justice Clusters.- Full time, ongoing role within the Hazard, Risk and Data Management Division.
- Parramatta/Sydney based role with flexible work options and hybrid arrangements available.
- Clerk Grade 7/8 Salary ($110,266 - $122,058 per annum) plus employer’s contribution to superannuation and annual leave loading.

About the Role
As the Disaster Risk Analyst, you will:
- Source, integrate and prepare data from a range of sources to support disaster risk modelling across hazards, exposure, and vulnerability.
- Analyse probabilistic, spatial and non-spatial data to identify trends, patterns, and key drivers of natural hazard risk in NSW.
- Develop and maintain datasets, metrics, and dashboards that support evidence-based disaster adaptation and resilience planning.
- Apply statistical, geospatial and machine learning methods to deliver actionable insights across multi-hazard scenarios.
- Create data visualisations and reporting tools that inform government and partner agencies on disaster risk and response.
- Contribute to the development of decision support tools, including Average Annual Loss (AAL) and insurance risk metrics.

About You
To succeed in this role, you will:
- Have hands-on experience in natural hazard or disaster risk modelling.
- Be proficient in SQL, Python, and Excel for data wrangling, analysis, and automation.
- Be skilled in communicating insights through charts, maps and spatial outputs.
- Possess familiarity with tools like Power BI and GIS platforms is desirable.
- Have a strong analytical mindset with the ability to transform complex data into practical decision-making information.
Essential requirements:
- Tertiary qualifications in engineering, science, statistics, actuarial studies, data science, or equivalent professional data analytics knowledge and experience.
Help turn complex data into meaningful action that protects NSW communities from future disaster risks.
About the Agency
The NSW Reconstruction Authority (RA) is an executive agency of the Premier’s Department. The RA will improve how NSW plans for disasters and help communities to recover from them faster.
To reduce the severity and impacts of disasters, the RA will complete critical planning and preparation with communities, NGOs, businesses, and government. When disaster does strike, we will get recovery started swiftly and coordinate reconstruction efforts across agencies, communities, and other stakeholders.
