Organizational Setting

The Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations (FAO) supports the 2030 Agenda through its Strategic Framework, promoting efficient, inclusive, resilient, and sustainable agrifood systems for better production, nutrition, environment, and life, leaving no one behind.

FAO Country Offices, guided by the Strategic Framework, provide policy advice, technical assistance, and core services to countries in FAO’s mandated areas. These offices implement country-specific priorities outlined in their Country Programming Frameworks (CPFs) and aligned with the UN Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF), ensuring efficient operations with adequate human and financial resources.

FAO Ethiopia country office in close collaboration with Ministries of Agriculture (MoA) and other relevant government institutions implements a various intervention aimed at promoting sustainable crop production systems, providing related technical assistance and policy advice, enhancing access to knowledge and technology, promoting seed systems and genetic resources and supporting appropriate and timely response to food security challenges and emergencies.


Reporting Lines

Under the overall supervision and guidance of the FAO Representation in Ethiopia and the direct supervision of the Monitoring and Evaluation (M&E) Officer and the Compliance Advisor, the Junior Data and Feedback Analyst will provide technical support to the monitoring and evaluation functions, to facilitate efficient, cost-effective, and impactful analysis of feedback and complaints data to strengthen learning and accountability across the programme. The incumbent will contribute to evidence-based decision-making by ensuring timely and high-quality data management and analysis, supporting feedback processes and enhancing programme responsiveness. 


Technical Focus

The technical focus areas for the incumbent will be centred around Accountability to Affected Populations (AAP) and Monitoring, Evaluation, Accountability, and Learning (MEAL), with a particular emphasis on feedback and complaints data management and analysis.


Tasks and responsibilities

In particular, the incumbent will be responsible for fulfilling the specific tasks as follows: 

•    Assist in collecting, cleaning, and organizing feedback and complaints data from multiple sources, ensuring consistency and quality in data handling.
•    Support the analysis of qualitative and quantitative feedback data to identify recurring issues or trends that inform programmatic improvements.
•    Contribute to the preparation of simple visualizations, tables, and charts for inclusion in reports and presentations to communicate findings effectively.
•    Assist in categorizing and coding complaints and feedback to facilitate easier tracking and analysis, contributing to systematic reporting.
•    Help maintain feedback tracking tools or databases, ensuring timely and accurate data entry and management.
•    Support the preparation of summary briefs or dashboards highlighting key findings and follow-up actions to promote learning and accountability.
•    Contribute to the documentation of good practices and lessons learned from feedback analysis, promoting continuous improvement.
•    Assist in meetings and discussions on feedback findings, providing relevant insights and recommendations as needed.
•    Assist in the development and maintenance of an online document management system to support the storage and retrieval of feedback-related information.
•    Perform any other duties as required

CANDIDATES WILL BE ASSESSED AGAINST THE FOLLOWING


Minimum Requirements   
 
•    University degree in statistics, economics, data science, social sciences, public administration, or a related field
•    Minimum 2 years of work experience in data collection, data entry, M&E, or analysis-related tasks. 
•    Working knowledge (level C) of English and working knowledge of the local language used at the duty station (Amharic).
•    National of Ethiopia or resident of the country with valid work permit

Technical/Functional Skills

•    Familiarity with Microsoft Excel (required); knowledge of data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI, Tableau) is an advantage.

•    Exposure to Artificial Intelligence (AI) and machine learning tools (e.g., text classification, sentiment analysis, or natural language processing) is an advantage.
•    Experience or familiarity with digital tools for data cleaning, categorizing, or analysing qualitative data is a plus


Selection Criteria 

•    Extent and relevance of experience and knowledge in collecting, cleaning, and analysing qualitative and quantitative data, including feedback and complaints data.
•    Extent of experience in preparing visualizations, dashboards, and reports to support programmatic decision-making.
•    Extent of knowledge and experience in working with various stakeholders, including UN agencies, government counterparts, NGOs, private sector, and academic institutions, particularly in relation to monitoring and evaluation.
•    Extent of experience in managing and maintaining data tracking systems, categorizing qualitative data, and ensuring data quality and consistency.
•    Experience in using digital tools and software for data management and analysis (e.g., Excel, Power BI, Tableau) will be considered an asset.
•    Familiarity with feedback mechanisms and complaints-handling systems in humanitarian or development contexts will be considered an asset.
•    Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively with diverse teams and contribute effectively to meetings and discussions.
•    Demonstrated understanding of confidentiality principles and data protection standards.
