About the role

We are seeking an experienced FinOps Data Analyst to join our growing FinOps team! As a FinOps Data Analyst, you will play a crucial role in bridging the gap between finance and cloud operations by analyzing and optimizing IT spending data. Reporting to the FinOps Manager, you will collaborate closely with the engineering, finance, and business teams to implement cost-saving strategies and ensure financial transparency and compliance.

What you’ll do here:

  • Financial Reporting:

    • Prepare regular financial reports, presentations, and dashboards to provide insights and updates to management and stakeholders.

    • Create reports and alerts to track spending trends and impact of cost optimizations.

    • Develop and maintain financial models for budgeting, forecasting, and tracking IT resources costs.

    • Conduct IT resources utilization/spend analysis and provide optimization recommendations.

  • Data Processing:

    • Develop and maintain a FinOps data repository, integrating data sources via APIs, automating allocations, and ensuring accurate, reliable data for downstream reporting.

    • Aggregate and summarize complex data for management reporting.

  • Cost Optimization:

    • Identify and implement optimization procedures to reduce costs and improve financial efficiency.

    • Drive cost savings through identifying and managing reserved instances or savings plans.

    • Monitor IT resources usage and subscription costs.

  • Budgeting and Forecasting:

    • Assist in developing budgets and forecasts by providing financial analysis, insights, and recommendations.

    • Collaborate with the IT Finance department to ensure IT resources billing data, refunds, and discounts are processed and billed correctly.

    • Manage the cloud invoice process.

What you bring to the table:

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Computer Science, or a related field. Master's degree preferred.

  • At least 5 years of experience in an IT environment.

  • Minimum 2+ years of experience in FinOps/Cloud Spend Optimization.

  • Hands-on experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud.

  • FinOps certification or ability to obtain within 12 months.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills. Proficiency in tools like Apptio is strongly encouraged.

  • Ability to structure, model, and optimize FinOps data repository, including data ingestion, governance, storage, API integration, and processing.

  • Experience in conducting deep dives to identify issues or opportunities.

  • Effective communication skills and ability to deliver presentations.

  • Experience in an agile and fast-paced organization.

Knowledge & Skills:

  • Proficiency in tools such as AWS Cost Explorer, AWS Trusted Advisor, Azure Cost Management, Recommendation Advisor, Power BI.

  • Experience with SaaS technologies, costing models, and cloud costing products (e.g., Apptio, Power BI, Tableau, CloudHealth, Cloudcheckr, APIs).

  • Experience with at least one cloud billing system (AWS, Azure or GCP).

  • Strong Excel skills; Python or proficiency in SQL is a plus.

  • Solid problem-solving ability and experience working through ambiguity.

  • Experience collaborating with accounting teams to classify expenses accurately.

  • Effective communication skills for presenting complex and technical concepts to less technically knowledgeable stakeholders.

  • Curiosity and continuous improvement mindset; committed to finding better ways to achieve goals.

  • For candidates located in Quebec, bilingualism is required considering the necessity to interact on a regular basis with English-speaking colleagues across the country.

  • No Canadian work experience required however must be eligible to work in Canada.

Nice To Have:

  • FinOps certification.

  • IT management certification (TBM).

  • Cloud architecture certification (AWS, Azure, or GCP).

  • Understanding of AI and machine learning concepts and their applications in IT operations.
