As a Senior Staff Data Scientist within the Business Bank’s Customer, Channels and Data AI Centre of Excellence (AiCE), you will assist in the development, monitoring, implementation and management of models supporting our journey of transforming the practice of Business Banking across Australia.

From applying Generative AI to better support knowledge and decision management functions, to activating agent oriented AI design patterns to better automate and drive results, you will be familiar with the latest and most exciting patterns in AI and Data Science development that may support this mission objective.

• Passionate about building market-leading commercial Gen AI chatbot and machine learning systems, with a focus on agentic and multi-agentic AI system design and implementation.

• Excited about tackling new, challenging business problems in Data Science using cutting-edge Gen AI tools and frameworks such as Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, LangGraph, and the OpenAI Responses API.

• Adept at combining commercial and technical Data Science models to deliver unique, strategic value to the business.

• Collaborative and curious, working closely with product teams to solve complex data problems and influence senior stakeholders with confidence.

We are also interested in hearing from people who:

• Can provide technical and thought leadership on emerging Gen AI technologies and their strategic impact.

• Are passionate about coaching and mentoring junior team members in Data Science and AI.

• Can build and deploy ML and AI solutions, leveraging statistical control and performance estimation theory to drive business outcomes.

• Can develop and implement interpretable and explainable Gen AI solutions, working with MLOps teams, Solution Architects, and Product Owners to deliver actionable insights and enhance customer engagement.

• Have experience working with large, complex datasets in corporate environments and automating data-driven processes.

• Possess strong communication skills to positively influence diverse stakeholders and cross-functional teams.

Tech Skills:

We use a broad range of tools, languages, and frameworks. While we don’t expect you to know them all, experience or exposure to any ML systems and statistical modelling will set you up for success in this role!

• Solid foundations in statistical modelling, Gen AI, Data Science, and ML models.

• Proficient in developing and deploying a variety of AI solutions, including generative AI, NLP, reinforcement learning, and multi-agent systems.

• Experience with AI interpretability and explainability techniques.

• Core background in Software Engineering and Data Science.

• Strong coding skills in Python, R, PySpark, SQL, and cloud platforms like AWS or Azure.

• Have applied experience in multi-agentic Generative AI frameworks such as Semantic Kernel, AutoGen, LangGraph, or OpenAI Responses API (or equivalent frameworks)  

• Strong leadership skills to manage end-to-end Gen AI and ML project delivery, including stakeholder communication and milestone tracking.

• Degree-level qualification in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics, Statistics, or a related field.
