Role Overview

 

We are seeking a Senior Platform Engineer – AI Platforms to join our Platform Engineering team within the Digital Foundation division under the CTO Organization. In this critical technical leadership role, you will spearhead the design, development, and maintenance of our internal platform products, supporting advanced AI and automation initiatives across our global organization.

Our Platform Engineering team empowers upstream contributors (developers, data scientists, analysts) and downstream teams (Site Reliability Engineers, Operations) by delivering robust, scalable, and secure cloud-native platforms and tooling. You'll lead architectural decisions and hands-on engineering of cloud infrastructure and backend services, supporting platforms that leverage state-of-the-art Generative AI technologies (LLMs, RAG, AI Agents). This is a strategic opportunity to apply your extensive technical expertise and leadership skills, significantly impacting innovation acceleration within the pharmaceutical industry.

 

What will you do in this role

• Lead the design, development, and implementation of backend software and platform services, ensuring scalability, reliability, and maintainability.
• Architect, deploy, and manage secure and scalable cloud-native infrastructure, primarily utilizing AWS and occasionally Azure, to meet enterprise-level platform requirements.
• Drive Infrastructure-as-Code (IaC) best practices using Terraform, ensuring reproducibility, efficiency, and compliance across cloud environments.
• Own end-to-end Continuous Integration and Continuous Deployment (CI/CD) strategy using GitHub Actions, Argo CD, and related DevOps tools to enhance automation, reliability, and observability.
• Collaborate closely with AI development teams, facilitating the deployment, scaling, and integration of large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG) techniques, and AI agents into our production environment.
• Implement containerization strategies with Docker and manage large-scale deployments and orchestration using Kubernetes (Amazon EKS), ensuring high availability, performance optimization, and resource efficiency.
• Develop and refine deployment automation scripts, Helm charts, and other YAML-based configuration templates to streamline and standardize Kubernetes management.
• Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, driving best practices in platform engineering, software development, infrastructure management, and DevOps methodologies.
• Collaborate proactively with cross-functional stakeholders (Development, Project Management, SRE, Operations) to identify, troubleshoot, and resolve complex technical challenges, ensuring platform health and exceptional user experience.

What should you have

• 8+ years of progressive professional experience in cloud platform engineering, software engineering, or a related technology leadership role.
• Proven expertise designing and deploying large-scale cloud-native architectures primarily on AWS, including deep knowledge of compute, storage, networking, security, and observability solutions.
• Extensive experience with containerization technologies (Docker) and orchestrating production-grade systems using Kubernetes, particularly with Amazon EKS.
• Expert-level proficiency with Infrastructure-as-Code tools, especially Terraform (HCL), for managing complex, multi-account cloud environments.
• Demonstrable leadership in building robust, automated CI/CD pipelines using GitHub Actions, Argo CD, or similar tooling.
• Strong software development and scripting skills in languages such as Python, Go, JavaScript, or Bash, and mastery of YAML and Helm for Kubernetes management.
• Comprehensive understanding of networking fundamentals in cloud environments (VPC, subnet design, security groups, load balancing).

 

Preferred

• Experience architecting and managing multi-cloud infrastructure across AWS and Microsoft Azure.
• Prior exposure or direct experience deploying and managing Generative AI technologies, including large language models (LLMs), retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), AI agents, and integrating these into enterprise-grade platforms.
• Familiarity with compliance, security, and best practices specific to highly regulated industries (e.g., healthcare, pharmaceutical).
