Job Description

Data Governance & Quality Specialist

At Vector, we’re not just upgrading infrastructure—we’re transforming how energy is delivered and experienced. Backed by a $4.6 billion investment over the next decade, we’re modernising our electricity distribution network and embedding smart, digital technologies across everything we do. This is the heart of our Symphony Strategy: a bold move toward a cleaner, more resilient, and more responsive energy future.

But this transformation goes far beyond the grid. As a technology-first organisation, data is at the core of our evolution. We’re building intelligent platforms and products that turn information into action—enabling better decisions, unlocking innovation, and delivering real value to customers and communities.

To bring this to life, we need a data governance and quality expert who understand that trusted, well-governed data is foundational to progress. If you're excited about shaping the future of energy through data, we want to hear from you.

The Role:

We’re looking for someone who understands that data governance isn’t just about setting rules—it’s about enabling smarter decisions, stronger trust, and more impactful innovation. In this key data quality role, reporting to the Head of Data & Information Management, you’ll lead initiatives that embed best-practice governance principles across the entire data lifecycle—from creation  and classification to usage, stewardship, and beyond.

You’ll play a key role in uplifting data quality, championing ownership and accountability, and ensuring that Vector’s data remains a reliable, secure, and ethically managed strategic asset. As we continue to scale our digital and AI capabilities, you'll also have an interest in applying or gaining more knowledge to help shape the future of AI governance—making sure that data handling, lineage, and ethical safeguards are transparent, robust, and compliant.

This isn’t a behind-the-scenes role. You’ll be at the centre of how Vector uses data to drive transformation—ensuring our systems stay smart, ethical, and future-ready.

What You’ll Be Doing:

  • Defining and rolling out data quality standards and best-practice playbooks across the business
  • Facilitating workshops with data owners and business teams to co-design governance practices and resolve quality challenges
  • Translating governance principles into practical, business-friendly processes that drive adoption
  • Working closely with data owners to understand and address root causes of data issues
  • Driving the adoption of governance tooling and structured frameworks
  • Leading governance forums and influencing key decisions across domains
  • Embedding governance in AI and innovation streams to ensure ethical and responsible use

About You:

You're experienced, curious, and ready to influence. You understand the value of well-governed data and how it can power better outcomes—not just in dashboards, but in real-world impact. You know how to bridge the technical and the human side of governance, and you’re excited by the opportunity to help lead an organisation through meaningful change.

You bring:

  • 4–7 years' experience in data governance and quality across complex environments
  • A solid grasp of metadata management, data cataloguing, and stewardship
  • Practical experience with governance processes, tools and frameworks
  • Awareness of compliance and regulatory obligations
  • A growth mindset and curiosity to explore how AI and emerging technologies intersect with data governance—even if you’re still building deep expertise in this space
  • Experience (a huge advantage or interest in AI governance and emerging tech ethics

You’re great at:

  • Spotting and solving quality issues with precision and purpose
  • Communicating complex topics in a way that lands with business stakeholders
  • Building trust and momentum across diverse teams
  • Advocating for data as a living, evolving asset—not just a checkbox
  • Facilitating cross-functional conversations that align technical and business perspectives
  • Building momentum and shared ownership for data governance across diverse stakeholder groups

Why Join Vector?

  • Be part of a transformative, forward-thinking organisation at the forefront of energy and digital innovation.
  • Lead critical projects that have a tangible impact on the future of electricity distribution.
  • Work in a collaborative and inclusive environment with a strong focus on professional development.

We Also Offer:

  • A fun, flexible, and stimulating work environment, filled with interesting work being done by smart and innovative people
  • Flexibility, including the option to work from home a couple of days a week, and flexible start and finish times to help balance work and life
  • Health and wellbeing support
  • Great benefits that reflect the importance of family
