The Computer Science Department (CSD) is one of the seven academic departments in the Carnegie Mellon School of Computer Science (SCS). Our environment is demanding and fast-paced, but it's also innovative, flexible, and highly collaborative. Computer Science at Carnegie Mellon is also distinctive for our research style, educational programs, commitment to diversity, culture and organizational structure.
Our Technology for Effective and Efficient Learning (TEEL) Lab is seeking am Associate Learning Engineer to contribute to educational and research projects in emerging technology areas. At the TEEL Lab, we collect and analyze student data to inform the development and maintenance of technology-enhanced learning tools and design of features that enable learning research. New initiatives include the development of infrastructure and content for large-scale workforce training programs in cloud computing, data science, and AI/ML.
Core Responsibilities
- Provides technical oversight of instructional and research-related courseware development, to include the creation of specialized software tools.
- Full stack software development with HTML, CSS, JavaScript and/or Python.
- CI/CD - build and deploying containerized microservices using Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.
- Supports the delivery of instructional units as needed.
- Consults with Faculty members and Graduate students on software development issues related to course or project work.
- Provides technical customer support for users and maintains on-line courses.
- May hire, train and supervise student attendant and assistants as required.
- Other duties as assigned.

Qualifications
- Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Instructional Design, Learning Sciences or a related field is preferred
- Experience with commercial cloud services such as Microsoft Azure, AWS or Google Cloud Platform.
- Experience with web service development frameworks.
- Full-stack development with HTML, CSS, Javascript, or Python.
- Experience with SQL/NoSQL databases and RESTful web services.
- Experience building, deploying, monitoring and troubleshooting containerized microservices using Docker, Kubernetes and Helm.
- Demonstrated experience of applying rigorous quantitative and/or qualitative research methods to empirically study a research question.
- Experience in cloud computing.
- Experience securely managing and analyzing complex data sets.
- A combination of education and relevant experience from which comparable knowledge is demonstrated may be considered.
