Backend Developer Lead - Casino Pipeline

Sovrun is on the lookout for an experienced Backend Lead Developer for our cutting-edge Casino game development team. As the Lead Developer, you will spearhead the design, architecture, and implementation of high-quality, GLI/eCOGRA certified casino game applications, ensuring they are engaging, secure, performant, and compliant with jurisdictional regulations. This role requires a blend of deep technical expertise in real-money gaming (RMG) and a passion for the iGaming landscape.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lead the technical direction and architecture of casino game projects, ensuring best practices in software development, including robust RNG implementation and adherence to secure development lifecycles (SDL).
• Manage, mentor, and inspire a team of developers, fostering a collaborative, agile, and innovative team culture focused on G2S (Game to System) protocols and API-driven development.
• Spearhead the design, development, and optimization of robust and scalable backend services and APIs using Node.js and TypeScript, overseeing the entire end-to-end deployment pipeline to ensure seamless and efficient delivery of our casino experiences.
• Architect alongside game and ML teams to implement the integration of backend services with real-time game data streams and server instances, while also connecting and leveraging AI foundational models.
• Implement complex gameplay mechanics, paytable logic, bonus features, and persistent player state management, ensuring seamless and responsive user experiences across desktop and mobile platforms.
• Conduct rigorous code reviews, utilizing tools like Git for version control, to enforce coding standards, improve code quality, and ensure game integrity.
• Ensure the security and compliance of casino game applications with industry regulations (e.g., MGA, UKGC, AGCC requirements), including AML and KYC considerations and PCI DSS for payment integrations.
• Architect and implement scalable server solutions leveraging microservices, Docker, and Kubernetes on cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or GCP, ensuring high availability and low latency for multiplayer and live dealer integrations.
• Integrate with third-party systems, including payment gateways, affiliate platforms, and casino management systems (CMS).
• Stay updated with the latest industry trends, tools, and technologies, such as Provably Fair algorithms, WebGL, and emerging blockchain/NFT applications in gaming.
• Drive continuous improvement practices within the development team, including CI/CD pipelines, automated testing (using frameworks like Selenium or Appium), and performance monitoring (using tools like New Relic or Datadog).
• Oversee the technical aspects of game certification processes with labs like BMM Testlabs or GLI.

Requirements

• 4+ years of experience leading technical teams or projects in a similar role within the online casino, iGaming, or social casino industry.
• Strong knowledge of game development frameworks and languages (e.g., Unity (C#), HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript, Pixi.js, Phaser).
• Proven experience with casino online gaming technologies and server architectures, including RESTful APIs, WebSockets, and database solutions (SQL/NoSQL like PostgreSQL, MongoDB, Redis).
• Deep understanding of multiplayer game design principles, server-authoritative logic, and best practices for RMG environments.
• Excellent problem-solving skills and a proactive leadership style, with experience in agile/scrum methodologies and tools like Jira/Confluence.
• Strong communication and interpersonal skills to inspire, guide team members, and liaise with regulatory bodies and testing agencies.
• Experience with cloud gaming, CDN integration, and scalability considerations for a global player base.
• Passion for gaming and a strong understanding of the casino game industry, including player psychology, game math, and responsible gaming practices.
• Familiarity with data encryption standards, network security protocols, and anti-fraud mechanisms.
