About this role:

Wells Fargo is seeking a Software Engineering Senior Manager.

We are looking for a highly experienced and strategic Senior Engineering Manager – Quality Engineering to lead and grow our Quality Engineering teams across Functional and Non-Functional Testing domains. This individual will play a critical role in defining and driving quality strategy, automation frameworks, performance testing, and release readiness, while collaborating closely with development and AI engineering teams to ensure seamless delivery of high-quality software and AI-powered solutions. The person will also be accountable for driving transformation of QE function with focus on automation and delivering efficiencies. The ideal candidate will have deep expertise in SDLC, modern test automation tools, performance engineering, and hands-on experience with AI solution testing and validation.


In this role, you will:

  • Manage, coach, and develop a team or teams of experienced engineers and engineering managers in roles with moderate complexity and risk, responsible for building high quality capabilities with modern technology
  • Ensure adherence to the Banking Platform Architecture, and meeting non-functional requirements with each release
  • Partner with, engage and influence architects and experienced engineers to incorporate Wells Fargo Technology technical strategies, while understanding next generation domain architecture and enable application migration paths to target architecture; for example cloud readiness, application modernization, data strategy
  • Function as the technical representative for the product during cross-team collaborative efforts and planning
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for driving escalated resolution of technology roadblocks including code, build and deployment while also managing overall software development cycle and security standards
  • Determine appropriate strategy and actions to act as an escalation partner for scrum masters and the teams to meet moderate to high risk deliverables and help remove impediments, obstacles, and friction while encouraging constant learning, experimentation, and continual improvement
  • Build engineering skills side-by-side in the codebase, conduct peer reviews to evaluate quality and solution alignment to technical direction, and guide design, as needed
  • Interpret, develop and ensure security, stability, and scalability within functions of technology with moderate complexity, as well as identify, manage and mitigate technology and enterprise risk
  • Collaborate with, partner with and influence Product Managers/Product Owners to drive user satisfaction, influence technology requirements and priorities in the product roadmap, promote innovative and intelligent solutions, generate corporate value and articulate technical strategy while being a solid advocate of agile and DevOps practices
  • Interact directly with third party vendors and technology service providers
  • Manage allocation of people and financial resources to ensure commitments are met and align with strategic objectives in technology engineering
  • Hire, build and guide a culture of talent development to have the skills required to effectively design and deliver innovative solutions for product areas and products to meet business objectives and strategy, as well as conduct performance management for engineers and managers


Required Qualifications:

  • 6+ years of Software Engineering experience, or equivalent demonstrated through one or a combination of the following: work experience, training, military experience, education
  • 3+ years of management or leadership experience


Desired Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s or master’s degree in computer science, Engineering, or related field.
  • 6+ years of experience in software quality engineering, with 5+ years in a leadership or management role.
  • Proven experience managing large-scale Functional and Non-Functional testing teams.
  • Strong knowledge of SDLC methodologies – Agile, DevOps, CI/CD, and Test-Driven Development.
  • Experience with AI tools and technologies including Gen AI, Agentic AI, Prompt Engineering etc
  • Hands-on experience with modern test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, TestNG, JUnit, Cypress, Playwright).
  • Practical experience in AI/ML solution validation, including testing AI pipelines, models, and responsible AI aspects like fairness, explainability, and robustness.
  • Strong leadership, interpersonal, and communication skills – ability to influence and collaborate across global teams.
  • Demonstrated ability to build scalable testing strategies and evolve quality engineering functions in a high-growth environment.
  • Experience with cloud platforms (AWS, Azure, GCP) and cloud-native applications.
  • Familiarity with MLOps and tools like MLflow, Kubeflow, or model governance platforms.


Job Expectations:

  • Lead and manage cross-functional Quality Engineering teams including functional testers, automation engineers, and performance/security testing teams.
  • Drive transformation of Quality Engineering Function, adopting AI tools and transforming to an automation first culture.
  • Define and drive the overall QA strategy, standards, and best practices across multiple product lines.
  • Collaborate with Engineering, Product, and AI/ML teams to define quality goals early in the development lifecycle.
  • Ensure quality practices are embedded throughout the entire SDLC, from design to deployment.
  • Establish and maintain robust test automation frameworks (e.g., Selenium, Cypress, Playwright) and integrate them into CI/CD pipelines.
  • Oversee non-functional testing practices including performance, load, security, accessibility, and reliability testing.
  • Champion data-driven quality metrics and KPIs to measure quality effectiveness, test coverage, defect trends, and release readiness.
  • Lead quality assurance efforts for AI-powered applications, ensuring deterministic and non-deterministic outcomes are validated, ethical testing approaches are followed, and regulatory or compliance standards are met.
  • Mentor and coach QE leads and individual contributors, fostering a culture of continuous learning and innovation.
  • Stay abreast of emerging testing tools, trends (especially in AI/ML testing), and industry best practices to ensure competitive advantage.
