This position is based in Brussels.

Role Purpose:

The Data Analyst role plays a critical part in supporting the financial closing process, ensuring data integrity, and maintaining compliance with data governance and protection standards. The Data Analyst will collaborate closely with internal and external auditors, contribute to data quality initiatives, and act as the Data Protection Champion within the Finance department.

Principal Accountabilities:

Financial Closing Support

  • Assist in the preparation and validation of financial data for monthly, quarterly, and annual closings.

  • Ensure accuracy and consistency of data used in statutory and management reporting.

  • Collaborate with accounting teams to reconcile data discrepancies and support journal entries.

Audit Support

  • Provide timely and accurate data to internal and external auditors.

  • Assist in documentation and explanation of financial data and processes.

Data Product Maintenance

  • Maintain and monitor existing data products and dashboards used for financial reporting.

  • Ensure data pipelines and reports are functioning correctly and reflect accurate information.

Data Governance & Quality

  • Participate in the Finance Data Management Committee.

  • Monitor and report on key data quality metrics.

  • Support initiatives to improve data accuracy, completeness, and consistency.

Data Protection & Compliance

  • Act as a key liaison for data governance topics within Finance

  • Support the implementation of data quality, retention, access, protection policies relevant to financial data.

  • Raise awareness within the Finance team on data governance changes and their impact on financial processes and reporting.

Process Improvement & Automation

  • Identify opportunities to streamline data processes and improve reporting efficiency.

  • Collaborate with IT and other departments to implement automation solutions.

Stakeholder Collaboration

  • Work closely with cross-functional teams including Accounting, IT, Risk, and Compliance.

  • Translate business requirements into data solutions and actionable insights.

Skills:

  • Skills in analytical and data reporting software (e.g. SQL, Python, Power BI, Power Query); or the clear potential to further develop these skills from a solid working base knowledge.

  • Analytical skills: Undertake detailed technical analysis.

  • Time management: Manage own time and delivery of tasks to meet deadlines, keep others informed of timescales for delivery and any delays in good time.

  • Delivery: Work independently on clearly defined tasks to deliver high quality output that is checked for internal consistency and meets agreed deadlines.

  • Communication: Able to communicate to a range of stakeholders both inside and outside Lloyd's in person and in writing. Able to direct communications appropriately to others within the team.

  • Flexibility: Able to manage priorities on multiple projects simultaneously and communicate any issues arising.

  • Collaboration: Show respect and positive regard for others in every interaction.

Knowledge:

  • Working knowledge of tools and techniques (such as SQL, Power Query, Python, Power BI) used to manipulate and analyze large volumes of data.

  • Understanding of BE GAAP / IFRS Accounting Standards

  • Basic level knowledge of insurance principles and practices (preferred)

  • Excellent oral and written communication in English

  • Understanding of data governance frameworks

  • Working knowledge, understanding and expertise in data science

Experience:

  • 3+ years of experience in a data analysis or financial reporting role.
