About the Role
We seek a highly motivated and skilled AI Scientist Intern to join our Generative AI program within the R&DS department. The ideal candidate will focus on fine-tuning or distilling LLMs to tackle labor-intensive challenges in pre-/post-award clinical trials, including clinical trial document creation, automatic issue identification, protocol digitization, indication prioritization, and more. This role requires a strong research background in Generative AI, encompassing in-depth understanding of Supervised Fine-Tuning (FST) and reinforcement learning algorithms such as Proximal Policy Optimization (PPO). The candidate also needs to have extensive hands-on experience in designing AI agents, creating fine-tuning datasets from scratch, prompt engineering, efficient RAG creation, agentic AI system customization, and more basic GenAI techs. This position offers an exciting opportunity to contribute to groundbreaking research in GenAI technologies that will significantly impact the life-science industry, particularly in expediting clinical trials.

Key Responsibilities
The selected candidate will be responsible for customizing LLM for specific use cases, designing and executing Generative AI experiments while collaborating with our top-tier engineering team and life-science experts to push the boundaries of content generation and reduce the time for delivering impactful end-to-end automatic solutions. The role will involve multiple use cases for experimentation, where the candidate will collaborate with data engineers, architects, and business subject matter experts (SMEs) to develop potential LLM-based solutions for each use case.

Qualifications
·    Demonstrated research expertise in Generative AI, especially reinforcement learning for LLMs. Having top-AI conference publications in the field of generative AI will be a plus.
·    Rich hands-on experience in creating fine-tuning datasets from scratch, fine-tuning LLMs through customizing training process/cost functions/reward modelling, etc.
·    Experience with Azure cloud platform or Databricks to develop and deploy advanced GenAI solutions.
·    Strong programming skills in Python with sufficient hands-on experience on LangChain, LangGraph, AutoGen, various vector DBs, Neo4j, etc.
·    Ability to formulate new research problems, create training pipelines and evaluate model performance.
·    Currently enrolled in PhD program in Computer Science or related fields

·    Eligible to work in the United States and physically located in the United States during the internship.

The potential base pay range for this role, when annualized, is $26,500.00 - $66,100.00. The actual base pay offered may vary based on a number of factors including job-related qualifications such as knowledge, skills, education, and experience; location; and/or schedule (full or part-time). Dependent on the position offered, incentive plans, bonuses, and/or other forms of compensation may be offered, in addition to a range of health and welfare and/or other benefits.
