What you’ll be doing
The Associate Vice President, AML Risk Insights is accountable for the development, maintenance and management of the enterprise program to effectively identify money laundering (ML), terrorist financing (TF), sanctions and operational risks for the Enterprise AML and Sanctions Programs at CIBC. The AML Risk Insights Program will identify new and emerging risks and trends across multiple levels through analysis of data. This role will also own the AML Risk Framework including the underlying methodologies for assessing ML/TF and Sanctions risks for CIBC, its Strategic Business Units and clients. The AML Risk Insights Program will apply to Canada, the United States, United Kingdom, Hong Kong, Singapore, Australia and the Caribbean and includes the Client and Country Risk methodologies, typologies, ML/TF/Sanctions inherent risk assessments. The insights will be used to enable senior management decision making, performance reporting of EAML operations to senior management, board committees and to regulators, as applicable. The Associate Vice President, AML Risk Insights, also oversees and has accountability for the governance, oversight, gathering, organizing, interpreting and presenting the data needed to support the identification of insights, risks, day to day operations, internal and external reporting.

How you’ll succeed
- Business insights and analysis - Lead the development and manage the AML business insights program for EAML for multiple regions including Canada and the US by working closely with teams in these countries to identify money laundering (ML) and sanctions risks and trends for each jurisdiction. Ensure key risk indicators and metrics are developed and regularly reported to inform stakeholders of changes in ML/TF/Sanctions risk profiles of CIBC, its businesses and clients. Oversee the identification of higher risk activities at CIBC involving employees, clients and transactions through the analysis of data and supplementary to EAML’s Transaction Monitoring Program.
- AML risk framework - Ensure that CIBC’s enterprise ML/TF and Sanctions risk assessment program is implemented globally and that the methodology and corresponding procedures comply with the requirements and principles in the Proceeds of Crime Money Laundering and Terrorist Financing Act (PCMLTFA) and corresponding regulations, FINTRAC guidelines including the Risk Based Approach (RBA) to Combating ML and TF and the Assessment of Inherent Risks of ML and TF in Canada. Ensure that CIBC’s enterprise ML/TF and Sanction risk assessment program, methodology and procedures contemplate the prescribed requirements, including any national risk assessment reports, issued by foreign regulators for those jurisdictions which CIBC operates in. Develops and maintains a ML/TF and Sanction risk assessment governance framework which includes supporting mandates and committees to oversee the risk assessment program. Also ensure currency of Risk Assessment standards, supplements, methodologies and procedures captured on EAML’s intranet site and EAML’s Inventory of Procedures. Develops and maintains processes and templates to deliver data analytics capabilities and practices for ultimate inclusion in the weekly, quarterly and annual CAMLO report.
- Performance reporting - Design, develop and deliver individual, team, divisional and process performance reporting for Operational teams in EAML in line with stakeholder requirements. Ensure data reported is accurate, timely and presented in a visually appropriate means to ensure audience comprehension.
- Data management – Act as the Data Owner or delegate for EAML’s applications and responsible for implementing and maintaining the governance and oversight for data related to EAML’s applications including identification of critical data elements, maintenance of documentation such as data dictionaries and data custody agreements. Establish the appropriate data infrastructure to ensure data is accurately captured, defined, categorized and preserved as well as has the appropriate infrastructure to enable reporting, insights, automation that is timely and reliable.
- People leadership – Provide leadership and effective management of business unit staff to influence employee commitment to the organization, to the team, and to their job.
Who you are
- You have a minimum of 10 years’ experience interpreting and implementing regulatory compliance programs, related to money laundering and/or terrorist financing including business insights and risk methodologies.
- You have comprehensive knowledge of Canadian AML/ATF laws and regulations, and a working knowledge of AML/ATF laws and regulations of jurisdictions in which CIBC entities operate.
- You have an undergraduate degree in business, law or accounting, or a related field, or equivalent experience.
- You have solid judgement and problem-solving skills in order to provide input and advice to LoBs on AML for best compliance and risk management solutions.
- You have exceptional time management skills in order to prioritize and work on multiple projects simultaneously.
- You’re passionate about people. You have solid relationship management and negotiation skills, with the ability to establish strong relationships in order to build trust amongst all internal and external stakeholders. You have the ability to influence others when there are differences of opinion.
- You can demonstrate excellent, written and oral communication skills together with strong presentation skills to ensure that employees at all levels attain the appropriate level of understanding of anti-money laundering and to ensure that all available information relating to money laundering is cascaded throughout all business groups.
