Job Title: Director of Data Strategy and AI, Business Management Transformation Office

NextEra is seeking a Director of Data Strategy and AI to join the newly formed Transformation Office within the Business Management organization. Business Management owns the P&L for the world’s largest portfolio of renewable assets and is responsible for ensuring these assets meet financial commitments.
This includes:
- Acting as the CEO of the assets
- Driving optimal commercial and regulatory outcomes
- Maximizing revenue and optimizing operational performance
This leader will oversee a multidisciplinary team focused on modernizing how generation data is captured, governed, and leveraged across the enterprise. They will define and execute a data strategy that unifies telemetry and time-series data (e.g., SCADA, Historian), enables predictive analytics and AI, and delivers measurable value across Business Management, Power Marketing & Infrastructure, Power Generation Division and Finance in close collaboration with NextEra Analytics and IT.
This is a critical leadership role bridging data engineering, architecture, AI readiness, and business enablement, ensuring that data assets fuel better decision-making and operational excellence.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead the definition and execution of the enterprise strategy for time-series and historian data integration, encompassing site SCADA and ISO SCADA systems, to establish a single source of truth for operational data insights.
- Drive the broader data strategy by integrating cutting-edge trends such as edge computing and Model Context Protocol - Anthropic (MCP), etc. ensuring our initiatives shape the future of data integration and management.
- Oversee the architecture and governance of telemetry data, ensuring consistency, quality, and alignment with business requirements.
- Drive readiness for predictive analytics and AI, collaborating closely with data scientists, data engineers, and business stakeholders.
- Ensure the solution meets the needs of operations, trading, finance, and asset management teams by deeply understanding their workflows and data use cases.
- Establish and enforce data governance and tagging standards to support scalable solutions and minimize customization.
- Identify and mitigate cutover and historical data quality risks in partnership with operations and IT teams.
- Collaborate with the business product manager to align timelines, change management, and implementation plans with transformation milestones.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Engineering, Data Science, Computer Science, or a related field; MBA or advanced degree preferred.
- 10+ years of experience in data strategy, architecture, or transformation in industrial or energy sectors.
- Strong knowledge of time-series data platforms, SCADA systems, historians, and telemetry data pipelines, including GE Proficy, Aveva PI, Azure IoT, and AWS IoT (Fabric). Expertise in integrating these systems with enterprise data platforms such as Databricks, AWS, Azure Fabric, etc. to drive comprehensive data insights.
- Proven experience with data governance frameworks, data engineering, and AI/ML readiness (Python, cloud platforms, etc.).
- Ability to translate complex data architecture into business value and outcomes.
- Demonstrated leadership across cross-functional business and technical teams.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills; able to influence and align stakeholders from frontline teams to executive leadership.
Job Overview
Leaders in this role direct and manage the development of all new product opportunities which are complex mathematical and scientific systems aimed at meeting advanced industry needs. This position is responsible for multiple development teams in a matrix organization. Individuals in this role partner with internal Executives and Directors to assess business needs and develop the necessary product and market strategies to enhance the competitive advantage.
Job Duties & Responsibilities
- Works with senior leadership to define and vet new product opportunities that align to overall Business Unit and corporate strategies
- Determines vision, execution path and scope for new product development within Business Unit
- Leads multiple new product development projects concurrently from proof of concept and prototype development, gaining customer and executive funding, to full development
- Guides senior professionals up to senior managers on product development efforts
- Performs other job-related duties as assigned

- Experience: 10+ years
- Supervisor/Management Experience: 3+ years
