Senior Manager Data Products and Operations, Data Strategy and Governance – Canadian Commercial Banking (Toronto, Ontario)

 

Purpose

 

The Commercial Bank is a large contributor to Canadian Banking and is comprised of numerous sub-business lines across Canada. This role plays a key role in simplification, consolidation, and modernization of Commercial Banking data to enable robust and high quality data products for business needs.

 

The role requires a high degree of collaboration across wide ranging groups: Global Banking & Markets (GBM); Global Transaction Banking (GTB); Finance, Wealth Management, Retail Small Business, and various Commercial Banking areas.

 

This role contributes to the overall success of the Department / Business Area in Canada / Country / Region / globally ensuring specific individual goals, plans, initiatives are executed / delivered in support of the team’s business strategies and objectives.  Ensures all activities conducted are in compliance with governing regulations, internal policies and procedures.

 

Accountabilities:

 

•    Champions a customer focused culture to deepen client relationships and leverage broader Bank relationships, systems and knowledge.


•    Leads the Data Product and Operations team with complex data analysis, problem solving, and project execution as required.


•    Works independently with large, unstructured, and complex datasets from various sources (such as but not limited to: client onboarding system(s), trade source systems, credit systems) to conduct analysis and perform data reconciliation and cleansing.


•    Oversees multiple data analysis and reporting simultaneously to meet tight deadlines.


•    Designs and maintains operational tracking mechanism and metrics (including monitoring and reporting on productivity output and quality trends against target projections).


•    Defines and drives the data product strategy and roadmap for Commercial Banking, identifying key business needs and opportunities for data-centric solutions.


•    Conducts data product discovery, working closely with business stakeholders (e.g., Relationship Managers, Credit, Treasury) to understand their pain points and data requirements and translate to technical requirements and mapping. Works closely with Commercial data governance team to manage data and ensure discoverability of data products in enterprise catalog.


•    Oversees the full lifecycle of data products, from ideation, design, development, and launch, through to adoption, iteration, and eventual deprecation.


•    Ensures data products are user-centric, valuable, usable, and feasible, delivering tangible business outcomes.


•    Establishes and tracks key performance indicators (KPIs) for data products, measuring their adoption, business impact, and return on investment (ROI).


•    Prepares periodic (daily/weekly/bi-weekly/monthly) and ad hoc reporting to stakeholders.


•    Supports the regulatory exception process by investigating, tracking, and resolving exceptions.


•    Leads project initiatives within Canadian Commercial Banking business and engineering team where data reconciliation is required.


•    Hosts and conducts kick-off and progress meetings and working groups with stakeholders on initiatives.


•    Understands how the Bank’s risk appetite and risk culture should be considered in day-to-day activities and decisions.


•    Actively pursues effective and efficient operations of their respective areas in accordance with Scotiabank’s Values, its Code of Conduct and the Global Sales Principles, while ensuring the adequacy, adherence to and effectiveness of day-to-day business controls to meet obligations with respect to operational, compliance, AML/ATF/sanctions and conduct risk.

Education / Experience / Other Information


Educational Requirements:


•    Bachelor's Degree in Computer Science, Finance, Economics or Statistics
•    MBA (Finance or Marketing) strongly preferred


Experience:


•    Detailed experience in Project Management, Communication, Relationship Management
•    Detailed experience in Data management tools such as Collibra
•    2+ years’ experience in programming, application development and/or data warehousing
•    Experience in programming tools such as Unix, Mainframe, SQL, SAS, , Python, R an asset

 

Skills:


•    Excellent verbal and written communication skills are required
•    Strong proficiency in SQL for complex data manipulation and querying.
•    Experience with Python or R for data analysis, scripting, and automation.
•    Familiarity with cloud-based data platforms (GCP) is a plus.
•    Experience with data visualization tools (e.g., Power BI) for executive reporting.
•    Strong prioritizing, analytical, presentation, project management and planning skills
•    Effective strategic thinking, organizational know-how and influencing skills are critical for success
•    High degree of knowledge of commercial products and profit drivers 
•    Strong technical skills in Math, Statistics, Computer Science or related fields
•    Excellent design and delivery capabilities

                               
Working Conditions:


•    Work in a standard office-based environment; non-standard hours are a common occurrence.  
•    Limited to no travel is expected
