Responsibilities:

The Aviation Data Product Engineer will support Barrow Wise's project and perform the following duties:

  • Conduct comprehensive research to identify current and potential markets for ICAO data products (APIs, GIS, Carbon Calculator, ICAO Data+, Aero Tariffs, Traffic Forecast). Determine the specific data sets in demand and the primary customers (e.g., airlines, airports, aviation authorities, researchers).
  • Review existing ICAO data products to evaluate their quality, relevance, and usability. Identify gaps, redundancies, and areas for improvement. Identifying data products that need further support and those that need to be removed from a revenue-generating portfolio.
  • Explore and propose various revenue models (e.g., subscription-based, pay-per-use, tiered pricing) and identify potential partnerships and collaborations with other organizations, such as tech companies, universities, and aviation industry stakeholders, to expand the reach and application of ICAO data.
  • Evaluate and recommend data collection, processing, and management improvements to ensure high-quality, reliable, and up-to-date data products. And assess current technological infrastructure and suggest necessary upgrades or integrations to support scalable and efficient data commercialization.
  • Conduct a thorough assessment of ICAO's current data products, including data sources, storage systems, processing methods, and dissemination channels. This assessment should cover both technical aspects and user requirements.
  • Engage with key stakeholders within ICAO, including data managers, analysts, IT personnel, and end-users, to gather insights into their current workflows, pain points, and future needs related to data products.
  • Identify gaps and inefficiencies in the existing data architecture and product offerings. Evaluate whether the current infrastructure aligns with industry best practices, regulatory requirements, and emerging technologies.
  • Assess the scalability and performance of ICAO's data products to determine their ability to handle increasing volumes of data and user demands. Identify any bottlenecks or limitations that may hinder future growth.
  • Evaluate the quality, consistency, and reliability of the data used for ICAO Data products. Assess if ICAO needs to improve and the effectiveness of existing data governance practices, including the involvement of ICAO's Legal Bureau.
  • Review the current technology landscape, including database systems, analytics tools, and cloud platforms, to identify opportunities for modernization and optimization. Evaluate emerging technologies like AI and machine learning for potential integration.
  • Evaluate the user experience of ICAO's data products, including accessibility, usability, and responsiveness. Identify areas for improvement to enhance user satisfaction and productivity
  • Assessment of Potential High-Value Data Products: Explore the potential for developing additional high-value data products. Assess market demand, potential revenue streams, and the feasibility of integrating such data products into ICAO's existing portfolio. Consider these new offerings' technical requirements, data sources, and regulatory implications.
  • Develop a future roadmap, product strategy, governance, and action plan.
  • Work remotely with one international trip

An ideal candidate has the following:

  • U.S. or Canadian Citizenship
  • Bachelor's degree
  • 7 years of experience in aviation, imagery, GIS data, and APIs; Aviation experience preferred
  • 7 years of experience in developing data products and assessing intelligence needed for the Aviation community
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines
