Lead Specialist - Simulation (m/f/d)

What you will do

As a Lead Specialist in Simulation, you will play a key role in advancing our adhesive technologies through state-of-the-art modeling and simulation. This position offers a unique opportunity to apply deep technical expertise in material behavior, collaborate across scientific and engineering disciplines, and contribute to the development of innovative adhesive solutions. You’ll work closely with colleagues from R&D, production, various business units, and academia to explore the potential of virtual product development.


Your tasks include:

  • Develop and enhance adhesives and products using modeling and simulation techniques
  • Adapt and expand classical and modern material models and simulation methods
  • Independently plan, monitor, and evaluate mechanical and chemical tests in collaboration with colleagues from various business units and external academic partners
  • Execute and manage projects and feasibility studies within interdisciplinary teams
  • Document and present work results independently to project teams and customers
  • Support the coordination of research and development collaborations with external partners

What you will need

  • Excellent university degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Mechanical Engineering, Physics, Materials Science, or a related field; a PhD is an advantage
  • Strong expertise in modeling and simulation of polymeric materials, ideally with several years of experience in academic or industrial R&D
  • In-depth knowledge of the finite element method, nonlinear continuum mechanics, and related mathematics, along with experience using FEA software (e.g., SIMULIA Abaqus)
  • Proficiency in programming languages such as Fortran, Python, and/or MATLAB
  • Experience with (thermo-)mechanical characterization of polymeric materials
  • Knowledge in failure modeling (e.g., cohesive zone models), mathematical optimization, machine learning, AI methods, and virtual product development is a plus
  • Independent, structured, and self-reliant working style
  • Strong teamwork and communication skills
  • High willingness to learn and excellent self-organization
  • Digital fluency and confident use of MS Office 365
  • Full professional proficiency in English; German language skills are a plus
