Job Overview

The Lead, Data Scientist plays a critical role in advancing Macy’s enterprise-wide data and analytics strategy. This role designs and deploys advanced analytics and machine learning models that drive business decisions and customer-centric outcomes. By embedding data science into high-impact use cases, this role helps accelerate innovation and deliver measurable value across the organization.

What You Will Do

• Design, develop, and implement scalable analytics models and machine learning solutions for priority business use cases.
• Collaborate with business units to generate hypotheses, define data needs, and deliver actionable insights.
• Build predictive models and high-impact visualizations to support decision-making.
• Partner with Data Engineering and Architecture teams to implement data pipelines and enterprise-wide data assets.
• Ensure analytics solutions comply with standards and best practices in methodology and coding.
• Support the scale-up and rollout of analytics applications in collaboration with Technology teams.
• Foster a data-driven culture by mentoring colleagues and promoting analytics literacy across the organization.
• Stay current on emerging data science techniques and tools to continuously improve capabilities.
• Foster an environment of acceptance and respect that strengthens relationships, and ensures authentic connections with colleagues, customers, and communities. 
• In addition to the essential duties mentioned above, other duties may be assigned.

Skills You Will Need

Advanced Analytics & Modeling: Designs and deploys predictive models using statistical and machine learning techniques. Skilled in tools such as Python, R, SQL, or similar platforms used for data analysis and modeling.

Data Engineering Collaboration: Works with engineering teams to build scalable data pipelines and reusable data assets.

Business Partnership: Translates complex analytics into business value through collaboration with cross-functional teams.

Cloud Computing: Applies data science techniques using platforms such as Google Cloud Platform.

Communication: Delivers clear, compelling insights through written, verbal, and visual storytelling.

Agile Problem Solving: Identifies and resolves data issues quickly to maintain momentum on analytics initiatives. Comfortable working under shifting priorities and adapting to business needs in real time.

Curiosity & Innovation – Demonstrates a continuous learning mindset and passion for exploring new approaches to data science and analytics.

Who You Are

• Candidates with a bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience in a related field are encouraged to apply. PhD preferred. 
• 5–8 years of experience applying data science in business environments.
• Regularly required to sit, talk, hear; use hands/fingers to touch, handle, and feel. Occasionally required to move about the workplace and reach with hands and arms. Requires close vision.
• Able to work a flexible schedule based on department and company needs.
