Job Description

Financial Services Data Strategy and Reporting Manager

Job Overview:

This role supports BYU’s Financial Services Division (Division) by evaluating and implementing technologies to improve the division’s effectiveness, developing data strategies, and designing and implementing financial reporting and visualization tools. In addition, collaborating with the Enterprise Solutions Group (ESG), the position will support the campus Finance Business Partners by assisting with report design, creation, and training. Acting as a bridge between Financial Services leadership, the Office of Information Technology (OIT), and ESG, this position also supports strategic alignment and effective execution of data initiatives while mentoring student employees and training campus finance professionals.

Reporting to the Assistant Administration Vice President, Finance and receiving direction from the Division Directors and Managers, the role will be an integral member of the University Financial Services team.

What you will do in this position:

  • Evaluate, recommend, and when approved, implement emerging technologies (e.g., Robotic Process Automation, Artificial Intelligence) to improve financial processes
  • Train Financial Services team members on report writing and data visualization applications
  • Create ad hoc reports to address financial reporting needs of Division and campus users
  • Design and maintain financial and data visualization reports using Workday and other tools
  • Collaborate with Financial Services leadership, OIT, and ESG to provide recommendations on finance data strategies, including the maintenance and effective use of the finance data pipeline
  • Supervise student employees and provide direction, mentorship, and performance evaluations

What qualifies you for this role:

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer information systems, Computer Science, or related field, or equivalent experience
  • A minimum of eight years of experience implementing technology in financial services
  • A minimum of five years of experience with data visualization and ERP systems
  • Proven experience supporting or working within a financial services organization
  • Significant project management experience with varied methodologies and tools
  • A thorough understanding of data strategy trends and visualization applications
  • Working knowledge of robotic process automation and artificial intelligence in financial applications
  • Experience applying statistical methods to draw insights and support business decisions
  • Understanding of data warehousing technology and approaches
  • Excellent communication skills, written and verbal, with a service mindset
  • Willingness and proven ability to mentor student employees

Preferred:

  • MBA, CPA, CMA, or equivalent credential
  • Familiarity with Workday financial and reporting environments
  • Proven experience teaching and training non-technical, financial teams in using new applications
